born on manhattan’s upper east side to parents whose wealth wavered almost as much as the strength of their relationship ; mother was intensely invested in the relationship , father was invested in his wall street stocks and the bevy of girls he saw on the side . they make a concerted attempt to stay together until simon’s fifteen , and then the acrimonious divorce really takes full effect .

ballard is simultaneously the best and worst thing to happen to him . admittedly , he falls off the wagon : he falls in with the wrong crowd , experiments with too many things , stops paying so much attention to otherwise impeccable adademic record . it only goes on for a year before he gets it together again . moving in with his uncle is interesting : at first he’s petulant and angry and distrustful , but the relationship warms almost immediately when antiques are brought into the picture .
simon is good with antiques , both restoring them and selling them . he learns that when he sells his first restored piece at seventeen . suddenly , his world is back together and everything makes sense again --- he finds his calling in old wood and lacquer and hours spent down in the dark warmth of the basement .
at present , he and his uncle co - own old hat antiques , a small antiques store specialising in furniture and art restorations . simon’s settled into his role and has become a real little local , almost more ballard than he is nyc .

she’s of ballard’s homegrown, born and raised in the small town alongside her twin brother, sterling, whom she is close with.
she’s from a relatively middle class family, one of which were pretty academically focused to the point where her & her brother were taught outside of their usual public schooling. despite sera not always agreeing with their constant curriculum, they’re still close.
sera currently majors in photography, but can be seen juggling a numerous amount of things seeing as her passions change just about every other week, though her love for photography has remained rather constant. another interest of her being film.
despite enjoying the idea of love, the thought of being in love is one that makes her anxious with uncertainty. she’s guarded with her feelings & heartbreak isn’t something she handles too well.

sera is the type of reserved that isn’t necessarily shy, just often keeps to themselves. kind of like an introverted extrovert if that makes sense?? she’s friendly but doesn’t often put herself in situation where she believes she doesn’t belong.
she can naive, mostly due to her being all too trusting and wanting to see the best in people. as expected, this has lead to a fair amount of disappointment throughout her lifetime. though that hasn’t dimmed any bit of her warm personality, she’s just learned to be cautious before putting your trust into someone else’s hands, people aren’t always who they appear to be.
she lives her life almost as though she’s in some cheesy coming of age movie ( with the a rad soundtrack of course ). some mix between 10 things i hate about you and ladybird.

childhood friends: she’s lived in ballard all her life, so she’s likely to have some old friends.... maybe even a best friend or the girl she’d had an unspoken crush on at sixteen??

* maia mitchell. twenty-four. cisfemale. she/her. | did you see monroe simms this morning on main street? i heard they were heading towards the protests. they’ve been in ballard for their whole life and last time i spoke to them, they were a photographer and an employee at twice new. if i remember correctly, they’re a pisces and they remind me of chipped peach nail polish, hushed whispers in a crowded room, soft flashes from a camera probably because they’re kind-hearted and self-critical.
the mccready’s were a picture-perfect family. harris and gretchen were the proud parents of two young boys and harris was ecstatic when the news sprung that they were having a baby girl. the only thing was––she wasn’t his.
right before monroe was born, the news leaked that gretchen had been having a long time affair with another man, and monroe was his. after learning this, harris packed up his things and he and the boys moved away, leaving gretchen with monroe’s father and soon monroe.
growing up, roe didn’t really know any of this. it was only time though until she found out. at the age of thirteen, while doing a family tree project for school, monroe found out that she had two older half-brothers. she found out about her mother’s failed marriage and her sibling’s father.
roe has just recently reached out to the brothers in hopes of one day meeting them and the possibility of having her siblings.

i imagine that she has kind of strict parents and that’s not her vibe at all so she was glad to get away from them and didn’t really put much thought into where she was headed or how long she’d be there
she definitely didn’t intend on staying as long as she did but she probably developed some good friendships/had a few relationships that made her want to stay
kind of a chill girl, might hold a grudge or two and forget why she’s holding them

She/her. | did you see Violet Mayfaire this morning on main street? i heard they weren’t heading towards the protests. they’ve been in ballard for a short time but were born in Ballard and last time i spoke to them, they were an artist, musician & therapist. if i remember correctly, they’re a virgo and they remind me of violets, art galleries & that perfect shade of red lipstick probably because they’re dependable and possesive.
Violets life started out relatively normal, it was her birth that held all the drama, her parents were rather high class in Ballard and so Her parents were swingers, so when one of their hookups wound up pregnant a lot of hush money was paid out and Violet was brought into her parents home and their hookup was relocated to a new home. Fortunately, her father had a type so to this day Violet still has no idea that her mother is not hers biologically. The rest of her upbringing had no drama, she received straight A's in school, and went on to work at getting a degree in therapy.
She met her husband during her first year in college, they were both on the exact same course, but her husband dropped out and moved into his family's business, and two short years later they were married. Violet spent ten years working on her degree, but at twenty-five, they had to move to a new town because her husband was expanding into another town, so she continued her degree via correspondence and continued to provide some support by selling her art and giving music lessons while she wasn't studying, but all of her hard work wasn't enough for her husband, and he wanted her doing more to help. It was simple little things at first, where he wanted her to add a few extra things into her day, which at first were easy to manage, but with studying, giving lessons, and trying to keep up with his demands she was struggling.
She found out she was pregnant when she was twenty-nine and they started fighting not long after. The wonderful person she had seen in her husband was slipping away in front of her eyes and she was figuring out that he wasn't the nicest person like she really did think he had been for the longest time, and yet she couldn't pull herself away, clinging to the fact that he might have changed. But after Atlas was born she realized that was not in fact how this was going to go, so with a thought about what she could do now she left in the middle of the night, moving into a hotel, trying her best just to exist. She moved in with her parents who now lived in New York, she lived there for a few years until she could settle her divorce, in which she got the house, car, and money and he got the business. But everything was tainted with sadness, and she just wanted to get out. So she packed up yet again and headed back home.
She's only been here a week but she can already see it's not what it used to be. She doesn't know where she's going from here, but she has her son, she had the forethought to keep his surname as her maiden name, and she changed her surname back to Mayfaire, but looking at life as a single mother sure wasn't where she planned on her life going.
