True, there have been other intersex characters on TV. Like, remember the appearance of a supermodel patient with CAIS (the same condition Lauren has) on the 2nd season of House, the one who was repeatedly referred to as a man and a "he/she"? Or, remember that girl who showed up in ONE episode of Freaks and Geeks as a love interest of Seth Rogen right before the series was canned? Yeah, us either.
Tuesday night's premiere is different. For starters, people actually know this intersex character's name because she's not just a prop for a main character--she is a MAIN character! And secondly, because Faking It took the time to consult with intersex youth to develop her character. Inter/Act was able to not only relay their experiences to the show's writers, but they were even invited on set to facilitate an informative workshop about intersex with the cast and crew. The last time that happened on the set of a major television series was...oh, that's right, never! And that's why we're so excited to watch, live tweet, and discuss the premiere of Faking It's season 2 Tuesday, Sept 23 10:30PM ET on MTV!
