[misgendering/dead naming/self harm tw] Jay was once considered to be a girl by the name of Sierra, but even at a young age, Jay knew that wasn’t right. Becoming what parents called a “tom-boy” and high school assholes called a “dyke”. When, in reality, Jay was never a girl at all, discovering genderqueer and feeling at home within the label. They went through multiple different identities over the years, but it was when they ran off at 18, they truly discovered themself. Shortly after, they changed their name legally and set about truly discovering themself. They had started self harming when they begun to fully question their identity, unable to cope with the unknown. They would continue to do so until they were almost 20.

[transphobia tw ]At 19, Jay fell in love. He was sweet and accepting of them and everything seemed right. It wasn’t long before the two were wed. Roughly a year into their marriage, at 20, almost 21, Jay found out they were pregnant and things took a turn. Their partner quickly took to misgendering them and refused to stop, so Jay filed for divorce. It was a strenuous process, but they were divorced and made sure their ex had no rights to their child. Riley Skyler Lynn would be born on premature, on March 3rd.

Jay has always had a thing for knowing how things work. Whether it was taking apart appliances just to put them back together, working on cars, or watching every episode of How It’s Made, Jay loved it all. If they could figure out how something worked, they would, or they’d break it trying.

Jay has a love of Legos that, occasionally, goes beyond the love of them even a young child has. They love building things and might even be a bit defensive of their Lego collection. They have also instilled this love in Riley and it’s one of the many things the pair frequently bond over.

After a few years of raising Riley, more or less on the go, Jay found themself in Lima. It was predominantly a college town and the local car garage was looking for a mechanic. Jay, being good with their hands and good with cars, managed to get the job. It set them up with hours that worked with Riley being in daycare and gave them a sense of accomplishment, being able to work full time while still being there or their kid.
