Seriously, three dope albums in one year (plus a casually released instrumental project to make it four albums in one year)??? In a year jam-packed with quality releases, Roc Marciano released multiple projects that were cut from the same cloth as the best material of his career, and all somehow devoid of filler material. At this point in his career it’s debatable whether Roc Marci is still in his Marcberg-era prime, or if he actually ascended to a higher level in 2018. What’s not debatable is that Rakeem Calief Meyer is without a doubt one of the finest MC’s in the business today, and one of the most influential. From the care he puts into the word choice in his writing, to his gravelly voice, to his signature flow, I don’t think any rapper can claim to be as pivotal in leading the modern underground rap renaissance as Roc Marciano.
