Episode ask! Bad Connection!
Thank you for the ask! My favorite thing about the episode: I really like the XANA attack itself this episode. I remember thinking about how XANA had gotten so powerful as to influence such a mob of humans in that specific way. It wasn't unlike him to mobilize large groups before, but this time they maintained much of their intelligence, making them MUCH more dangerous. It begins to feel like the Lyoko Warriors might be running out of time to destroy the seemingly endless replicas out there to defeat XANA afterall.
My least favorite thing about the episode: This might be unpopular, but the plot around Odd being embarrassed by his parents was not the strongest. I always felt Odd was very self-assured throughout the series, so for him to be embarrassed felt forced. It would have made more sense if they leaned more into the "I wish you would take a second to actively listen to me and understand me as a complex person" angle more. Regardless, it was nice to finally address Odd's home life a bit more.
Favorite character in this episode: Sissi! This is one of those episodes where her complexity shines through and her character arc seems to be progressing towards choosing to do good. Of course, it takes the pressure of a XANA attack, but she chooses to save Odd (I like this continuation of their relationship as well- they complement each other well throughout the series).
Favorite scenes in this episode: The scene where the mob is about to push Odd and Sissi from the roof. The stakes are just so high, and to have their parents have a hand in their demise is just so dramatic!
Favorite line: "A caterpillar! Metamorphosising into a lovely butterfly." -Odd about Sissi. I love that he changed his tune about her here. It is still silly and a bit embarrassing, but not at her expense any longer. I also like the symbolism of his perception of her changing and the allusion to her character development over the course of the series.
Overall thoughts: This episode, in hindsight, was a bittersweet watch. It has all the tension that comes with a great CL episode. But what it also ends up doing is setting up some stuff that never gets the chance to come to close with the rushed ending of the series. Full character arcs and maybe even some closer calls or losses were certainly teased here, with an extended season or even a 5th season seemingly promising to really flesh these hooks out. More collaboration from Jim and Sissi? More powerful XANA attacks? Close calls on Lyoko or even wipeouts on Lyoko... it just never came to be. Hopefully with season 5 some of these things get explored!
