Sex based oppression exists, literally between cis men cis women trans men trans women who is affected by abortion bans? Its people who can get pregnant who are female. Male privilege is having a body better studied and understood and not abused based on a vulnerable biological state related to reproduction.
This argument makes the mistake of considering the class of “female” coextensive with the class of “people affected by abortion bans.”
The class of “people affected by abortion bans is” “people who can get pregnant,” not “female.” Trans men are affected, if they are affected, because they can get pregnant; if they can no longer get pregnant, then they are no longer affected. Cis women are affected, if they are affected, because they can get pregnant; if they can no longer get pregnant, then they are no longer affected. Trans women are not affected because they cannot get pregnant, a common point of consternation. In all cases, what makes an abortion ban dangerous is not being “female” but the ability to become pregnant.
This argument is also transphobic.
A framework which classes trans men as female and trans women as non-female is blatantly transphobic. Trans women are mentally (that is, subjectively) female; to the extent that they are out as women, they are socially female; to the extent that they take hormones they are hormonally female; if you consider having a vulva to be the marker of biological femaleness, then when trans women receive vaginoplasty they are biologically female. Likewise for trans men vis-a-vis maleness.
“Sex based oppression” is little more than a dog whistle indicating allegiance to the oppositionally sexist idea that men and women are fundamentally and irreconcilably different, and (therefore) transition is a fantasy and trans women are fundamentally men and trans men are fundamentally women.
