a little rebranding of self.
where do i even begin? has anyone ever written a marketing plan about the business of their self, i wonder?
----
they say you can't have it all. or maybe he just said it so much for the past three years that i assume it is now a "they." today i found myself actually agreeing with that. for the first time, in my entire life, actually believing that maybe you can't have it all. or if you can, maybe not all at the same time. so i'm driving home feeling so defeated and full of doubt until it occurs to me that you absolutely MUST be able to have it all. you can. you absolutely can.Â
you just have to work your ass off for it and reevaluate what "it" is.
to me, having it all meant: having the great job, the great man, and the great people (family and friends). some of my biggest debates, most passionate fights, and deepest self-reflections have been for this idea. but, i've had it all wrong. and after years of desperately trying to understand why, despite my greatest efforts and confident boasting, "having it all" never seemed to fit my life. that is, until now.
yet still, i'm driving home, near tears, because it doesn't feel as euphoric as i had always dreamed. it's missing something. it's actually still completely off track. and that is because, i never had it right to begin with. having it all was never about external components. to really feel that fulfilled, i need to look internally.Â
i can have the best people in my life. i can be 100% in love with my perfect match. i can have the most fabulous job with the best paycheck. together. individually. whatever. but the real "all" is having a self. a balanced self.
"yeah, yeah, yeah. love of self. i get it, i get it." but sadly, dear alex, you don't. because if you did, you wouldn't doubt the significance of all of the rest of it.
you know what to do. you have all the resources to make it happen. you absolutely will have it all. i repeat, you will. have it all. you just must work for it. you must never stop working for it or letting outside factors distract or take priority of self. because those factors will fall into place and always remain there if that inner balance, love, and acceptance is present, protected, and placed on the highest pedestal.Â
now, i realize i've probably written about this before. i realize i've also said, what i'm about to say, before. but that does not stop me from saying it again. because as the video in my last post states, sometimes to find success, you have to want it as bad as you want to breathe. i don't know about you, but i fight for that breath everyday. i have dedicated years of my life fighting to deserve those breaths. and i'll continue to fight for me.Â
i'm restarting my happiness project. and i'm reprioritizing what my happiness is all about. same twelve goals. entirely new order. with a whole new set of obstacles and adventures ahead.
i'll go ahead and set my intention now for those twelve goals: commitment. to self.
