I found this video of my father from the summer of 2020 and I just need you to experience it. (The loud TV background is something my brother was listening to.) Immigrant dads are the best.

This is the only photo I took of Thanksgiving:
My dad—the cutest dad who exists and no I will not be taking critiques— with his grand-puppies.
On the left is Arezoo, the hypoallergenic dog my parents got for my sister while L was undergoing chemo (and kept, after L passed away) and my Kirby is on the right.
Kirby loves Grandpa.
Reclaiming my Iranian heritage over the past year was my most significant step toward feeling connected to our traditions. I explored this through pastimes — like reading and cooking — I already loved, but had never accessed from the perspective of my culture.
Nowruz (Persian New Year) began this morning, and continues for the next 13 days. Yesterday, my husband sweetly indulged my rush to buy rose water, fresh garlic, egg dying kits, and sumac for the haft-seen. I still need a hyacinth, and I wonder if the restaurant where we pick up Nowruz dinner will have them for sale.
I loved this piece and this writer’s take on creating “new” traditions for this thousands of years old celebration. Every year I think of something else I'd like to incorporate for future years. I do not have my own copy of Shahnameh, and realized yesterday that I wouldn’t be able to procure one in time.
It will be only my husband and I at home, celebrating together. The plan is to make a nice table, dye eggs, pick up our dinner, and be.
ps.
I gave my dad a painting of Arezoo, some nuts and tea, and this mug:
It makes me happy that he feels happy about them.
I can’t.

In the car with baba joon and his voice breaks and he says "I'm still struggling. I wake up every day and this starts all over again. It's just so unfair. ... But, the show must go on."
I never do my father justice when I talk about him, so I thought I'd tell you I showed him pictures of Freddie Mercury and his Persian cats and the Persian cat vest. He got so excited I thought he might cry.
