I think about this column so much. Boris Johnson is going to wait and wait to do something about B1617.2 (aka the Indian variant), and we’re going to be screwed.
With the B1617.2 (aka the Indian variant), maybe people will start understanding that we’re going to struggle with covid until the end of 2022 unless we get everyone (not just the UK) vaccinated. You can’t let the virus play in millions of extra bodies in Brazil and India and then expect it not to mutate and spread.

India is battling a record-breaking rise in Covid-19 infections that has overwhelmed hospitals and led to severe bed and oxygen shortages.
When cases suddenly started to spike in India in April, researchers and the general public were wondering if the surge was due to a more transmissible variant.
I put together a Q&A about the B.1.617 variant and what researchers knew at that time.
WHO names Covid-19 variants found in India as 'Kappa' and 'Delta'
Current Affairs The B.1.617.1 and B.1.617.2 variants of the COVID-19, first identified in India, has been named as 'Kappa' and 'Delta' respectively, the World Health Organisation (WHO) announced on Monday as it named various variants of the coronavirus using Greek alphabets.
"Today, @WHO announces new, easy-to-say labels for #SARSCoV2 Variants of Concern (VOCs) & Interest (VOIs). They will not replace existing scientific names, but are aimed to help in public discussion of VOI/VOC," Dr Maria Van Kerkhove, WHO's technical Covid-19 lead, tweeted on Monday.

An expert group convened by WHO has recommended labeling using letters of the Greek Alphabet, i.e., Alpha, Beta, Gamma, which will be easier and more practical to discuss by non-scientific audiences, the UN health agency said in a statement.
