Your creature/alien designs are genuinely so dope!
D'you have any tips for creature design bc I am STRUGGLING (I keep reusing the same design motifs for every creature I make augh-)
OMG, TYSM!! Usually what I do is I first figure out what sort of environment they evolved/thrived in! Do they live underground, do they dig? Do they live in the oceans? Are they fliers? Do they live in the trees, the cold, the blistering hot, etc? Or, I pick out something I really want to emphasize in the species. Such as my girl, Azos!
Their species evolved to be bigger / flashier not because it aided them in a survival standpoint, but because they prioritized size! // I like to think abt it like how male birds (especially peacocks) can look all flashy because it gives them a advantage when it comes to attracting others.
Try looking at other animals on Earth too! Maybe not just cats and dogs, but maybe weird fish or not everyday / common animals (Id suggest looking at deep sea creatures, bugs, etc.!)
Like Valo was based on birds / bats, but although his species are fliers they have sleek seal-like fur since they used to get food from their oceans. Or try putting functions somewhere else-- like for Xerina / zorpians, they breathe through slits in their necks. With aliens, it's basically free reign to do whatever you want with design-- while trying to make up excuses as to why it works how you want it to work hehe
Most of my 'process' for making designs is also just me wanting to draw something and experimenting. I do get worried a lot of my designs get repetitive and I am trying to get into more different alien ideas and designs!!
Ty for the ask!! I like rambling lol :]
