He had overheard someone talking about being the one to kill Aidan but he coudn’t believe it. Aidan was a survivor. He always had been. But then he saw the smile on Warrington’s face and knew that it was true.

Setting his face like stone he left the room, desperate to escape as quickly as he could. It was only once he had gotten far enough away that his body broke down as completely as his heart. He collapsed to the ground, his hands curled up into fists as they beat into the floor. Silent tears burst forth before his skin broke without him even noticing, his life pouring out red below him.

It was only when the sound of the impacts took on the sound of someone slapping at water did he realise that he had been bleeding. In a kind of stunned silence he looked down and wondered if Aidan saw himself bleed out too, could feel himself dying or if it was quick.

Growing up, Violet had been taught werewolf stories but that was all she thought they were. Stories, not actually relating to real life in any meaningful way.

That was, until a stranger entered the town bar. She moved to sit next to him, a friendly smile on her face, “Hey, I’m Violet.”

The man looked her up and down and Violet couldn’t help the feeling that she was prey being studied. “Zelus,” he answered curtly. “Are you from around here?”

“Yeah, born and raised.” And with that they got to talking, the afternoon quickly giving way to early evening as time flew by them.

On the way to the hotel they went through the park, it was the quickest route despite the eerie feeling made by the overhanging trees. The silver disk of a full moon broke through the clouds and a sinister smile crossed Zelus’s face as he dropped to his knees, his body shaking.

“Zelus?” Violet asked, concern thick in her voice as she placed a hand on his shoulder. “Are you alright?”

Her questions were answered simply by a loud snarl and the snapping of teeth. Violet took a few steps back as she watched with grim curiosity her stories come to life. She knew what they all said about werewolves but surely Zelus had to be different? He had seemed so nice at the bar, after all.

Those thoughts were quickly dispelled as the wolf turned on her, the eyes of a true hunter bearing down on her. Not wasting time on screams she ran as quickly as she could, even as the softer footfalls sped after her. It might have been her ears playing tricks on her but sounded like they were getting closer to her, too.
