Brevity is Dinty Moore’s literary journal of flash creative nonfiction. Today I went to the journal’s 20th anniversary reading that featured Beth Ann Fennelly, who is the current poet laureate of Mississippi.

Dear Gus,

I woke up this morning with my eye swollen shut, so I went to an urgent care facility and got a steroid shot in my ass, along with some other medications. I hated to miss the first round of panels at the conference, but I needed some relief. 

It was a good day, and I ended up at the Sibling Rivalry Press (founded by Bryan Borland) off-site reading, where I met some good people and heard some good readers, including poet C. Russell Price who impressed me enough that I’m doing my best to get him to come down from Chicago where he teaches at Northwestern to read at ARS. I also had dinner with Melissa Cundieff and Trey Moody, who didn’t read, but sometimes you can just tell when you meet good people that they are also probably good writers.
