I feel like this was a rating ship thing but I canât remember, so, um.
The instant Bucky saw Steveâs ears turn pink his eyebrows shot up. Â He followed the other manâs gaze across the battlefield to a brunette woman in silver and red armor making short work of a group of Chitauri warriors with her sword and shield. Â Bucky had time to mentally file the moment away before another wave of footsoldiers was upon them and he became too busy to consider new taunting material for his oldest, dorkiest friend.
After all, he already had so much to work with.
âCanât be comfortable for you, Stevie, fightinâ out in the road,â he called. Â âWanna move this to an alley?â
âCanât be comfortable for you, Buck, fightinâ up close,â Steve yelled back. Â âWant me to set you up a nice comfy nest?â
âThereâre enough birds on this team,â Tony said over the comms.
âI donât do nests,â Sam said.  âThatâs Hawkeyeâs thing.â
âHawkeye doesnât have nests, he has platforms,â Natasha put in. Â âAnd he always forgets that there arenât nets in the real world.â
âIt was one time!â
âSo whoâs that, in the silver and red?â Bucky asked casually, the next time a lull occurred. Â He watched Steveâs shoulders go tense and barely stifled a grin.
âSif,â Natasha supplied, respect in her voice. Â âWarrior, goddess-â
âCould probably crush my helmet with her thighs,â Tony added, voice just as respectful, albeit lust-tinged.
âIron Man!â Steve barked.
There was a telling silence over the comms, then-
âOhhhhh-â
âOOOOH-â
âYouâre kidding.â
âStevie boyâs got a type,â Bucky said, reflexively dodging the half-hearted punch aimed his way moments later.  âWhoever lives gets to stick around for the introductions.â
With incentive like that, itâs perhaps unsurprising that everyone managed to limp, crawl, hop, or glide to the center of the carnage, several hours later.
âAh! Â My friends, it is good to see you,â Thor said, beaming joyfully.
âLooks like youâve made more friends in the meantime,â Clint said.
âSome old, some new, come I will introduce you!â
When Steveâs first words to Sif were, âYou fight good,â Buckyâs first thought was: The more things change, the more things stay the same.  When all of the Earth-based Avengers started cracking up, his second thought was: Goddamnit, I didnât get that reference.
âSign me up for the next war!â Clint muttered.
Someone really needs to draw this for me; 'The Avengers Ensemble'. I would but I cannot art good at all. But seriously, it would be the best thing ever.
Thor- cymbals
Hulk- tuba
Loki- triangle
Ironman- grand piano
Captain America- harp
Black Widow- flute
Hawkeye- violin
Fury-conducter
Coulson-cello
So i went out for Dinner with my mum and we got onto the topic of movies we were going to watch. I brought up Marvel and she asked if they were making another Iron Man soon. I said no but there's going to be another Avengers.Â

Phil will eat anything left unguarded and would happily sleep through winter if people let him, so Clint spreads the rumour that he's a werebear.
It started out dopey and then got kind of serious and then dopey again. I donât know. But as a bear myself this speaks to me on a spiritual level. Under the cut and at AO3.
âOkay, who ate the last spring roll?â Tony asks with narrowed eyes.
âYou made the mistake of leaving it unattended,â Clint says with a Cheshire Cat grin.
âFuck you,â Tony says.
Clint dodges the empty take away container easily when Tony chucks it at his head. It seems the genius believes heâs the culprit. Well, no sense in wasting a good opportunity to fuck with him. He rests his elbows on the table and his chin in his hands.
âWasnât me. It was Phil,â Clint informs him smoothly.
âWhat? Phil, you son ofâ⌠wait, where the hell is he?â Tony asks, looking around their gathering.
âI think he said something about going to bed,â Steve says. The soldier pokes at his lo mein with a frown. âHeâs seemed kind of worn out lately.â
âIndeed. The Son of Coul has not seemed quite himself these past weeks,â Thor agrees.
âWell, heâs certainly been sleeping enough,â Bruce comments. âHe told me he slept straight through his alarm last week. I advised him to see someone in medical, but he waved me off.â
âWait a minute,â Tony says. He looks at Clint. âIs he the one whoâs been ninja-ing my snacks?â
âYup,â Clint answers, popping the âpâ on the end of the word.
âSon of a bitch,â Tony says. âHow?â
âDo you think heâs⌠depressed or something?â Steve asks.
âHeâll probably call it a cold,â Natasha pipes up. âThatâs what he usually goes with.â
âWhat exactly do you mean by usually?â Bruce presses.
Natasha and Clint share a look. Natasha shakes her head, her red curls bouncing, as Clint just smirks at her. Itâs clear the Russian doesnât want whateverâs got Clint so amused to be let out.
âHeâs a werebear,â Clint declares.
The group groans collectively and Clint has to dodge thrown cups and cutlery. He warns them to take him seriously, but theyâve moved on and wonât pay him any mind. None of them seem to notice that Natasha appears quietly pleased by their reaction, save for Clint. He shrugs his shoulders, apparently washing his hands of the situation and they go back to quietly picking apart the spread before them.
Clint wanders into the kitchen a week later, only to find Steve holding a bag if frozen peas to Tonyâs face. Apparently Captain America had gone a little overboard during a training session.
âItâs wasnât Steve,â Tony declares, pushing the super soldier away. He groans, shifting the frozen vegetables. âIt was Phil.â
Clint doesnât bother holding back his amusement. âWhat did you do?â he asks with a laugh.
âI was just joking!â Tony grouses.
âTo be fair, you kind of had it coming,â Steve says with a snort. âAlthough, Philâs been a little, well⌠short lately.â
âGrumpy as hell, you mean,â Tony grumbles. âI remembered the werebear joke you made at dinner the other night and I found him eating a donut while he was doing paperwork. So I walked up behind him and squeezed his stomach and asked if he was packing on the pounds for the winter. He fucking decked me.â
âJARVIS, please tell me you have that recorded,â Clint says, looking nothing short of delighted.
âOf course, Agent Barton. Am I correct in assuming youâd like a copy?â
âJARVIS, why do you always seem to cater to everyone elseâs needs before mine?â Tony asks, lowering the bag of peas.
Clint and Steve wince in sympathy. Thereâs a beauty of a shiner and his eyeâs nearly swollen shut.
âHeâs sensitive about it. Hates putting on the weight,â Clint declares. âDonât take it personally.â
âI canât see out of my left eye,â Tony says flatly.
âWell, maybe you shouldnât have grabbed him,â Clint says with a cluck of his tongue, grabbing an apple from the fruit bowl on the counter. âAnd maybe you should have listened to me.â
Eventually Tony storms off, declaring his intention to get the agent back for his injury, and leaving Steve and Clint alone. Clint munches contentedly on his apple, but Steve looks somewhat conflicted. The archer knows what the soldierâs going to do; heâs going to wait another minute before trying to get Clint to tell him whatâs really wrong with Phil. Because heâs the captain and he has to look out for his team. Clint feels briefly guilty about that; heâs been having fun teasing all of them, but Steveâs likely been worrying all the while.
âClint, I was wonderingââ
âHeâs a werebear,â Clint says, cutting him off.
Steve crosses his arms over his chest and stares Clint down. Clint patiently continues to chomp on his apple, waiting to see what Steveâs going to say.
âYou know, youâre really good at lying,â the captain declares. âEverything Iâm getting off you says youâre telling the truth.â
âThatâs because I am,â Clint says with a shrug.
âClint,â Steve sighs. âI know you think itâs funny and if you want to keep the joke up, thatâs fine. But I need to watch out for my team. Is there something going on with Phil that I should be concerned about?â
âNo,â Clint says. âIf you just leave him be heâll straighten himself out in a few weeks. It happens every winter.â
âOkay. Thatâs all I need to know,â Steve says.
Watching him walk away, Clint shrugs and grabs another apple. Itâs not his fault if they donât believe him.
âWas today not a period of rest for the Son of Coul?â Thor inquires at dinner.
âYeah, it was his day off,â Tony says. âSo what?â
âYou do not find it strange that he has not left his quarters?â Thor presses.
âSure he has,â Tony answers. He pauses and looks around the table for confirmation. ââŚhe has, right?â
âI havenât seen him since yesterday,â Steve admits.
âJARVIS, did Phil sneak back into work?â Tony asks.
âNo, sir. Agent Coulson is currently asleep in his quarters.â
âAsleep?â Tony echoes. âItâs only six. How long has he been asleep?â
âApproximately twenty-three hours, sir.â
âYou mean heâs been in his room for twenty-three hours,â Bruce corrects the AI.
âNo, sir. My records indicate that Agent Coulson first fell asleep yesterday at 6:18 p.m. and has not woken since.â
âHeâs fine,â Clint says.
âChrist, thatâs not fine, Clint,â Steve says, hurriedly pushing away from the table and leaving his seat.
The entire group does the same, rushing from the room and leaving Clint and Natasha at the table. The Russian gives him a particularly unamused look from across the table as she sips at her glass of water. Clint grabs a roll from the basket in the center.
âOh, donât give me that look. You think itâs funny, too,â he says.
âItâs funny now,â Natasha says. âBut Iâm not explaining to Fury why Stark was bear food.â
âPhil wouldnât do that,â Clint snorts. He picks at the roll. âWould he?â
âYou tell me, funny man,â Natasha quips.
âFrom what I can tell⌠heâs just sleeping,â Bruce declares.
âYeah, but heâs not waking up,â Tony points out.
Itâs a little awkward, Steve thinks, all of them standing in Philâs room. Theyâre gathered in a huddle by the manâs bed. Phil certainly looks as though heâs just sleeping, curled up beneath the sheets with his knees tucked up to his chest. But he hasnât so much as stirred since they entered the room, not even during Bruceâs examination. Steve lays a hand on the agentâs shoulder over the sheets and crouches by Bruce beside the bed. He can feel each breath Phil takes and notes that theyâre steady and even. He doesnât appear to be in pain. In fact, Philâs expression is about as relaxed as Steveâs ever seen it.
âHe doesnât seem like anythingâs wrong with him,â Steve says.
âWe should endeavor to make sense of the matter by contacting Fury,â Thor suggests. âPerhaps he has the answer we seek.â
âAt the very least we should tell him whatâs up,â Tony says, scratching the back of his neck.
Contacting Fury leaves them more perplexed than before. The director informs them that thereâs nothing wrong with the agent, per se, and they should leave him alone. In fact, he suggests they lock the man in his quarters and wait until he emerges himself. When they demand that he tell them exactly whatâs going on, he suggests they talk to Clint and Natasha. He promptly hangs up and further attempts to contact him go unanswered.
Reluctantly, they take Furyâs advice at Clint and Natashaâs insistence. Though the two continually tell them not to worry, itâs really all they can do. The situation takes a turn for the worse when Pepper returns from a conference in California.
âDid any of you hear that noise?â Bruce asks, squinting.
âYeah. It kinda sounded like aââ
âTony of all the stupid things you could do, this is by far the absolute epitome of stupidity,â Pepper yells as she suddenly emerges from the lift, running out of it looking like sheâs scared out of her wits. âAre you trying to kill Phil? Or me?â
âWhat, what, what? Pep, calm down,â Tony implores, holding his hands up defensively as Pepper looks near to having a panic attack. âWhat are you talking about?â
âI went to check on Phil,â Pepper says. Clint groans as she catches her breath. âWhy, for the love of god, did you put a bear in his room? And where is he?â
âA bear!?â Steve exclaims, looking hurriedly between Pepper and Clint. His eyes widen suddenly as he stares at the archer, a growing look of horror making its way to his face. ââŚno.â
âI told you I was telling the truth,â Clint says. âNone of you wanted to listen.â
âI told him it was better if you didnât know,â Natasha says with a shrug. âToo late for that now.â
âDidnât know what?â Pepper asks.
Clint sighs loudly. âFor the last time, heâs a werebear. Pepper, he didnât mean whatever he did. Heâs not himself when heâs like this and heâs probably embarrassed that you had to see him that way.â
They all stare silently at Clint and the archer can tell by the look in their eyes that theyâre currently trying to assess just when exactly he bought a pass for the crazy train. He looks to Natasha imploringly. The Russian woman looks thoughtful for a moment before walking towards the lift.
âCome on. Letâs go see him and straighten this out,â she says.
They follow her, all of them looking incredibly perplexed but wanting an answer all the same. When they reach Philâs floor, Natasha stops them, holding up a hand to halt their progress.
âLet Clint and I head the group,â she tells them. âWeâve seen him like this before and heâs not going to like the fact that weâve brought all of you up here.â
âWeâre not seriously going with this, are we?â Tony asks, looking to the group at large. No one answers him. âOkay, I guess weâre seriously going with this.â
The entire floor is darkened, with blinds drawn and lights dimmed. Unsurprisingly, theyâre lead to the bedroom and even though theyâve been told what to expect to find in there, none of them are exactly prepared when they open the door. Clint turns on the low light and they catch movement from the far corner. The entire bedâframe and allâis overturned and propped against the wall, the falling sheets creating something like a fort. They hear snorting and from beneath the structure, a massive grizzly bear emerges.
Catching sight of them, its lip curls up in a snarl and it raises itself on its hind legs. They unconsciously take a step backward as the bear threatens them with a deafening rawr. Clint doesnât seem phases at all, and instead walks towards the creature as it drops back down, still huffing and growling angrily.
âPhil, come on, knock it off,â the archer demands.
The bear growls loudly, swiping at Clint with a massive paw. Clint dodges the fearsome claws and, to their great surprise, smacks the bear on the noise. The bear moans, his ears laid flat against his skull as he covers his muzzle with a paw.
âWe talked about this,â Natasha says, walking up beside Clint. âYou knew you couldnât keep it a secret forever.â
The bear backs away, scooting back towards the overturned bed, huffing in agitation. He seems torn between wanting to hide beneath the bed once again and staying out in the open with them.
âThat is you Phil, isnât it?â Pepper asks, gaining enough courage to pull away from Tonyâs side. She looks back to the group before pointing. âLook. There, in his fur.â
At Pepperâs instruction, they do look. The bear, seeming to notice what theyâre looking for, shifts anxiously, growling and huffing and generally sounding quite displeased as he moves around. All his shifting allows them a good view of what Pepperâs trying to get them to see. There are two spots where the thick brown fur will not grow inâa line running down the left side of the bearâs chest and a slightly larger, matching line along the ridge of his back. He turns his back to them and proceeds to plop down and curl up, snuffling unhappily.
âPhil, if thatâs really you, itâs okay,â Steve says coaxingly, taking a step forward along with Pepper. âWeâre surprised, but itâs not the strangest thing weâve seen, right?â
âHey, if we had a problem with people turning into big, hulking monsters, Bruce wouldnât be here, would he?â Tony asks with a shrug.
âYouâre a good friend, Tony,â Bruce says flatly. He sighs and looks to the big, furry lump curled in the corner. âWhat I think Tony is trying to say is that we just wish you had felt comfortable telling us. Youâre hardly the strangest one in this bunch.â
âIt is a most impressive form,â Thor says. âYou should take pride in it.â
âSee? No reason to be embarrassed. Now stop being a baby,â Clint says, prodding the bearâs rump with the toe of his boot.
Phil lifts his head, snorting in agitation. But he gets to his feet and turns to face them. He hangs his head, making a low, guilty noise, but doesnât protest when Clint turns the overhead light all the way up so they can get a good look at him. He still shifts anxiously, crossing his front paws where he lies, much like Phil always crosses his arms in front of him. If they had any doubt left, itâs quickly erased when the bear looks up at them with a pair of blue-grey eyes that couldnât really belong to anyone else but their resident agent.
âSo,â Tony says with a slow nod. âWerebear.â
âWerebear it is,â Steve agrees with an easy shrug.
If they had been any other group of people, this wouldnât have gone over so smoothly. Watching Phil apologetically nose at Pepperâs hand when she draws near, Clint decides heâs really, really glad theyâre not any other group of people.
Itâs another two weeks before they get the agent back. Phil smothers a low groan where heâs curled up on the sofa. Steve offers him a sympathetic look when Clint comes over with antacids.
âNot an easy transition, then,â Steve notes.
âItâs like every bad hangover Iâve ever had all at once,â Phil mumbles.
âYeah, but itâs kind of cool you can turn into a bear,â Tony says. âI was thinking of making you our mascot.â
âI get fat and grumpy and turn into an animal. Thereâs nothing cool about it, Mr. Stark,â Phil says, making a face as he sits up and swallows the chalky antacids. He drops his head into his hands. âAnd if you do that, please remember that my threat to tase you still stands.â
âYouâre not fat,â Steve assures him. âYou were pretty grumpy though.â
âAnd sensitive. You get so sensitive, I swear itâs like every emotion you donât have on the job comes pouring out,â Clint says with a laugh. âLike right now and the fact that youâre complaining about putting on a few pounds.â
Clintâs nearly in hysterics as Phil growls at him for the comment and promptly blushes at the noise heâs made. The agent clears his throat, looking heartily embarrassed.
âIt, uh⌠takes a while to fully wear off,â he says.
âWhatever you say, Gentle Ben,â Tony teases. âAlso you owe me for all the snacks you stole when I wasnât looking.â
Phil sighs heavily. Heâs never, ever, ever going to live this down.
