A Run on a Texas Summer Day
Every time I run and exercise
I feel like Iām going to die
like my soul will call it quits
and ascend to God Most High.
My pulse is beating in my veins
and sweat is on my face.
I am feeling so much pain
as I pretend Iām being chased.
Oh! The penalty for health!
and the price of being fit!
Living to an ripe old age
(Is it really worth it?)
Cause Iām frying in an oven
As I bear the unbearable heat
and I know when I go back home
Iām going to be beat.
The sun is shining down on me
and is scorching my skin
Oh, the price of being strong!
And the price of being thin!
In Texas summer air
the heatās not ordinary.
So if I pass out, I hope someone
will find my body to bury.
āCause I am running for my life
in the pursuit of my fitness.
My muscles are all working
despite my dizziness.
I know Iām already strongĀ
but I just want to be stronger
I know Iāve been running long
but I know I can go longer.
But until I run three times
around this running track
my conscience will not allowĀ
myself to ever go back.
Till then, this feels like Hell
A hell of sun and sweat
Iām a motivated person
of that yaāll sure can bet.
Up the hill and down again
Jump over and around
Iām sprinting on an oven pan
that used to be ground.
Yet I feel so powerful
Iām still energized and alive
Iām tougher than the humidity
that doesnāt want me to survive.
Running might be very hard
and itās better without heat
for the Sun just makes frying pans
out of the roads and streets.
But I never feel so alive
than when Iām almost dead
but Iāll be stronger than my friends
(And I keep this in my head)
As you can tell I am alive
and I wrote for yaāll this song
So take care when you exercise
Donāt work out for too long!
