If there is no possibility how to avoid autoupdate, then I would not use that product. Welcome to real world. We don’t want to be permanently prepared to solve update issues randomly arising at any time. We want our systems secure and reliable, which is impossible when something tries to download and run code from the internet without any authorization. This is, in fact, a huge security hole, where your system is as safe as someone’s silly update mechanism with security typically based on TLS with all that CA's issues or similar crap. This is why it is definitely not recomended to add third party repositories, this is why all updates are done manually and not on all workstations/servers at the same time. I know this is in the sharp contrast to modern hipsteric way, but this is how to keep our systems secure, up and running, with full feel of responsibility.
I respect your rights to develop your software this silly way, but you would have to respect my right not to use that crap and to ban it anywhere I can.

Stock market update: Nifty Auto index down 2%; Hero MotoCorp dips 4%
