The call Chris received was the call he dreaded getting every day.
Sherry, in a panicked voice, said she needed his help. He'd agreed without hesitation, already sending out a message to the Hound Wolf Squad that they should get their things ready to go. Chris hadn't even intended to join them until Sherry dropped the real bomb on him: "I haven't heard from Leon in a few hours."
The words almost didn't register, but his body was moving without needing to tell it to. Something burned in the back of his throat as he tried not to think about the worst possibilities, tried not to think about what might have happened to Leon inside of that facility to be unable to contact Sherry.
The worst part, though? Was that Chris had no idea what Leon was doing in Raccoon fucking City.
The Wolves gave him unsteady glances as he stepped off the helicopter and began barking orders, unable to relax his shoulders until he heard through the radio: "Alpha? They're safe. I've got them."
His hands shook as he lit his cigarette, leaning back against one of the helicopters that had brought his team in. His gaze continued to snap toward where his team had entered the facility, but there was no sign of Leon or Grace yet—and Chris wouldn't be able to focus on anything else until he saw with his own eyes that the two of them were safe. So instead of the hundred other things he should have been doing after having unearthed a giant conspiracy, Chris let the smoke flow through his lungs and waited to lay eyes upon his husband.
