Because they’re so similar but, but, but— there’s something so specific about Oikawa that sets them apart, something that would make Oikawa uncomfortable and Atsumu angry

I keep imagining them interacting, bickering, flirting, and Atsumu getting increasingly irritated until he finally just says,

“Why do you hate yourself?”

And it rocks Oikawa to his fucking core

Because they are so similar, but that’s it, Thats the thing that sets them apart. Atsumu accepts all the ugly parts of himself, he’s not ashamed and he’s not gonna change to try and please anyone. He’s not gonna be polite for someone else’s benefit and he’s not gonna make himself smaller to make someone else feel better about themselves.

Atsumu lives the motto “who needs the memories” because he’s not thinking about the past or the future he’s living in the moment only, able to be his true self

Oikawa may “rule the court” but it comes with all the anxiety of a monarch knowing their every move is being watched by their citizens, thinking he’s being judged and not able to live up to expectation even though he’s only living to an expectation he’s placed on himself.

I think Atsumu is openly queer, perfectly comfortable in his sexuality and Oikawa fights it and hides it for years, and even if he comes out he’s guilty. Guilty for being different, guilty for being lustful or wanting sex, putting on a front like it’s fine but punishing himself internally for feeling like he isn’t good enough

I think Atsumu in his openness and directness would force Oikawa to confront those dark parts of himself, the self loathing. He would need to actually ask himself who he’s trying to impress and when will he ever be good enough and it would be so freeing and give Oikawa permission to be a more honest version of himself

Tobio: *eyes drying out, full on pout mode, lowkey looks like he's glaring*

Atsumi & Tooru: *lovingly staring into each other's eyes, starts getting competitive and starts dishing out childish insults to make each other laugh so hard they close their eyes or annoyed enough they roll eyes at the other resulting in loss*

Tobio : *has no idea how ended up in a staring contest with his old senpai but somehow feels if he looks away first oikawa would count it as a win and that's not happening on his competitive ass*

Tooru : *having the time of his life and being all sappy because tobio's big blues are adorable just him and having sadistic fun watching him struggling to keep his eyes open*

“Nah, it—” Atsumu gets interrupted by a sneeze. He blinks in surprise, confirming that it came from him. “Please tell me you’re not getting sick,” Tooru begs. “It’s just a sneeze,” Atsumu shrugs and then promptly sneezes again.
