Onward with a new nerdy burlesque act
What I used to call my “backburner act” has been moved to the front burner, and I turned up the gas to mark 11.
Starting last September, not long after Dragon*Con, all signs keep pointing to further development of this act…
I heard my song on the radio more times in the last three months than I have in the last 15 years, at least.
I had a flashback to the recurring dream I had when I was around 13 years old, when the song first played on my radio alarm clock, affecting my dream in a fantastical Holodeck way.
(side note: I recently I pulled up the song on YouTube to practice, and I picked the first one that came up. It was part of a playlist, and the next song that came on was another that I hadn’t thought about in years...until I had just heard it the previous night at Sadie Hawkins’ “Gentlemen, Quarterly” show. Thinking about that dapper bastard of a crooner that is New Orleans Jon, I had to fan myself off before getting back to practice.)
I found some of the costume pieces I started working on last year, and figured out some new details. Now I need a good wig and certain fancy gadgets...
All of the aforementioned experiences have affected the overall design, concept, and connection to the character. All these puzzle pieces are lockin’ in.
Choreography is like, really really coming together. My body continues to frustrate me AND impress me at the same time. This, too, reminds me why I’m doing what I’m doing.
I can’t fucking wait to workshop this and show my teachers what I’ve been working on..... but I HAVE to wait. It’s not ready yet, but it will be before long.
