Tonight it’s people commenting on and criticizing the AT-AT, ranting about how it’s a waste of credits and ineffective and they should have invested in other things...

...and my take is: “Can you prove that the Empire DIDN’T have other vehicles?”

Because we see AT-ATs deployed in one battle: a battle where they’re sent to be ARMORED TRANSPORTS across  harsh, snowy terrain and soak up a wall of artillery fire so they can use their high-ground guns to blow up a shield generator. Which they do.

The Empire’s not going to send in lighter craft or more versatile vehicles for a mission that AT-ATs can accomplish just fine. There’s no Rebel tanks that require tank destroyers, they’re not trying to plow through legions of Rebel soldiers or climb mountains, they’re not aiming to shoot down a bunch of enemy airspeeders or set up and anti-starfighter perimeter...the goal of the AT-ATs was to destroy the shield generator. And they did it.

Then we also see one chilling on Endor because A. That was the model they had on hand. B. It was a big transport still doing transport things.

I’m sure the Empire had plenty of low-slung vehicles bristling with flak guns and missile launchers and rear turrets. They probably even had AT-AT variants with those things. But those weren’t needed on Hoth, so they didn’t deploy them. Shield trucks, drilldroids, minesweepers, gatling tanks, sonic busters, quakemakers, jumpjets, deathwheels, trenchrollers, I’m sure the Empire had those aplenty, and plenty of them were probably tucked on board the Executor or the Tyrant or the Avenger, but none of them got deployed to Hoth because they weren’t needed. It’s the same reason why we didn’t see the Empire riding Dewbacks on Hoth--yeah, they’re in the army, but they’re not going to go everywhere.

The plane is shooting out an anchor and attaching it to the At-at’s leg.

I also made lava rock cannons on the At-at’s back.
