Two years ago I bought a pack of Yu-Gi-Oh cards. The guy manning the register made small talk with me about it, clearly also being into Yu-Gi-Oh, and when I mentioned that I was thinking of getting into the card game he said to me "Don't do it.", in the most deadbeat tone with wide eyes. This was weird to me because no one really tells you not to get into a card game you're both into. I thought about it a few times up until today, and I never actually understood why he said that.
Now, my Yu-Gi-Oh obsession has come back and I downloaded the tgc app to try and learn how to play. I did the same with Pokémon and I thoroughly enjoy Pokémon battles. The game started off normal with a tutorial and what-not, and I was having fun, even if it was a little underwhelming with the repetitive cards. Then came time to build my own deck.
Holy fuck. Why is there so much writing. What the fuck is a special summon. I watched the entire Duel Monsters series. I only watched the first 10 episodes of Yu-Gi-Oh arc V. What. WHAT IS SYNCRO SUMMONING. HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO BATTLE IF THE CARD IS TOO COMPLICATED FOR ME TO UNDERSTAND WHAT IM SUPPOSED TO DO????
Either I'm too dumb to play, or the modern version is just insanely complicated. I will be sticking to the earlier Yu-Gi-Oh and Pokémon. I'm not fucking with this bullshit.
I also sincerely apologize to the guy for not believing him. You were right dude. I do not want to get into that.
