Alcinous was the father of Nausicaa, Halius, Clytoneus, and Laodamas. Alcinous and his wife, Arete, live on an island named Drepane. This is the island that Jason and the Argonauts visited after their adventures on the land of Colchis - where he stole the Golden Fleece from. The Colchian army demanded Medea, but it was Alcinous who said that she would only go back with them if she were still a virgin; if not, she was Jason's wife, and he (Alcinous) would be forced to protect the couple. The army went home. Alcinous is also one of the rulers who Odysseus tells his tales to. IN MY OPINION Alcinoos in your chart can represent a) where you protect couples, b) where you might be protecting the wrong people, c) where you take in strangers, and/or d) where you listen to others.

Arete was the Queen of Scheria, wife (and niece) of Alcinous, and mother of Nausicaa and Laodamas. In The Odyssey, Odysseus appeals to her for protection and she did in fact ensure that he was well taken care of. She also played a role in Jason's tale, where she also helped to house them from the Colchians who sought them because of Medea. IN MY OPINION Arete in your chart can represent a) how protective/caring you are, b) your willingness to take can of strangers, and/or c) where in your life you help powerful individuals.

nausicaa, princess of phaeacia (asteroid 192)

Nausicaa was a Princess of Phaeacia - her father was King Alcinous and her mother was Queen Arete. Most prevalently she appears in The Odyssey as the playful and joyous lady that aids Odysseus in his time of need. As mentioned in his post, Odysseus runs into a bit of bad luck after upsetting Poseidon - his ship gets destroyed and he ends up getting washed ashore to a land that seems foreign to him. The hero comes out of his exhaustion haze hearing the laughter of women. This is when he discovers Nausicaa and her handmaids on, what he learns is, the island of Phaeacia. The handmaids are frightened by this strange and very nude man - they are unwilling to let him get near enough to speak - meanwhile, Nausicaa is happy to help him. Nausicaa kindly offers him clothes and brings him closer to the nearest town on the island. When they get near the town, she tells him it would be scandalous for her to be seen with a man and that she should go alone and ahead of him. She advised him to speak with her parents - more so her mother. Odysseus did just that and was a guest in their home for a while. It is thought that there was flirtation and sexual tension between her and Odysseus (he even promises to worship her as though she was amongst the gods in Olympus for saving him) but nothing ever occurs between the two in The Odyssey. There are also a few accounts that say she marries Odysseus's son, Telemachus (…yea…). IN MY OPINION Nausicaa can represent a) where you are humble, b) how open you are to strangers, c) where you may be more accepting of others compared to those around you, d) how willing you are to help those around you, and/or e) where you may be saintly or god-like in others’ eyes.
