Aster: Yeah...Even three Dueling fanatics put together couldn't defeat this Duelist. Jaden/Yubel: I never knew you considered yourself a fanatic. Aster: Why not? Can't become a pro if you're not dedicated to Dueling. Jesse: Hahaha! You're right about that! Jaden/Yubel: This means our opponent is crazier about Dueling than us! Jesse: That's a compliment, by the way. Aster: Yeah. The greatest of compliments. Jaden/Yubel: Me, Aster, and Jesse didn't hold back at all during this Duel. So defeating us means that you were really on your game! Thanks for the sweet Duel!

thanks to neo-spacians being Bad/worse than elemental heroes and cyberdarks being a lot worse than cybers on their own, i have my own bad little headcanon that aster phoenix has a curse on him where if he beats you in a duel, your deck gets much worse. like the real damage isn't the emotional pain it causes or the crisis of faith (which, to be clear, he did inspire in both zane and jaden), it's your deck dropping a few tiers. woe! curse of phoenix upon ye.

Okay I gotta share a bit of funny because at my rate of posting to AO3 this isn't going to see the light of day until SOMETIME IN 2027 so have part of a ficlet with Dark World Arc Aster and Blair

“Try not to let things get too bloody? It’s a pain in the ass to wash blood out of these cloaks.” Aster winked at Zane before shutting the door, locking it for extra security.

He didn’t turn around, feeling navy eyes on him once more. “You. Are unbelievable.” He could hear the grin in Blair’s voice. “The Aster Phoenix, a lowly servant to the Pharaoh?”

And it began again. “... Zane’s the one who came up with the Pharaoh thing. Not my fault he actually has a good dad that’s a good role model.”

“Uh-huh.” He turned around and sure enough, Blair was grinning at him, hands on her hips. “And I’m so gonna tease him about that, too. But you’re the one out here now. And the one wearing Zane’s coat.”

Aster huffed, crossing his arms, but refusing to take the coat off. “I’m cold, it’s warm, and it makes me look less threatening. Easy bait.”

“You’re as subtle as I was, and I straight up told Zane I was in love with him.” Blair deadpanned.

Aster sputtered, trying to find a reply as his eyes went wide. “I-I- I have eyes okay?! He’s married though! We’re just having some innocent-” a scream interrupted him and Aster blinked, “-well, some… safe to include you in fun?” He was quick to try.

“... Dibs on being the Princess.”

“That would make you his daughter.”

“For pretend! You’re the one wanting in on the harem.”
