you pleaded desperately the night before, eyes searching for any sort of hesitation in his eyes that just might prompt him to stay with you for the rest of his days – it sounded so nice, he thought, multiple times over actually.

yet he knows he can't, at least for now.

and how he'd wish to stay with you in bed for just a little longer, to hold you tighter than he already had and kiss you until the sun waves the horizon goodbye.

"please don't leave me again," you'd say so damn earnestly that he couldn't bare to look at you anymore, because if he did, you'd know very well that he'd give in right on the spot.

instead, he sinks his head further into your chest almost as if to drown in you, leaving a lingering kiss that tickles through the barrier of your skin and onto the depths of your heart,

"i'll always find my way back home to you."

I sit up just a bit, letting my legs dangle. "Why am I here?" I echo, my eyes roaming all over the room. "Well... you see, Dr. Yeager, I've been experiencing an excruciating pain that doesn't seem to go away no matter what I do."

Eren makes a face, but plays along. It's the first time I've really seen any light flash in his eyes in a long time. "Where is it you're experiencing this pain?" he asks, remaining professional.

I lift my hand and place it over the left side of my chest, right above my heart. "Right here," I clarify.

he loves coming home to the smell of his favorite dish being cooked on the stove or your cookies in the oven that smell and feel like a warm hug.

most of all, he loves coming home to the sight of you in your cute little chef apron, a bowl and ladle occupying your hands and a distant, old-timey record playing in the living room.

assassin!levi who forgets that on the outside, he's a cold-blooded killer, willing to complete any task as long as it brings him home to you yet on the inside he's just a husband who adores his wife as much as the moon adores the sun.

it might seem odd to anyone on the outside considering he has much more important matters to tend to – but he just couldn't resist stopping by a nearby flower shop to pick you up a bouquet of your favorites the day before he flies back home.

if there isn't a shop conveniently by him, he'll walk around to find some flowers to randomly pick off (he ensures that they'll be okay by the time he comes back to you).

and you're surprised to find him at your front door with a bundle of flowers in his hand and his head bashfully turned to the side. he doesn't say much nor does he really need to – the smile on your face alone is the warmest 'welcome home' he could ever ask for. he follows with a kiss on your forehead that lingers for a moment longer than usual, his way of saying,

"i missed you much."

he always manages to find a pocket of time to dedicate just for you, even if it took away from his title of being the "strongest".

when it came to you, he didn't need to be the strongest, he could just be levi and that was more than enough for him.

but to briefly elaborate, he adores the way you handle him with such gentleness and care – sometimes he thinks he doesn't deserve it. you being concentrated on his wounds, brows slightly furrowed, it really makes him fall in love with you all over again.

Say 'Ah' Chapter 7: Apply Pressure

I give Erwin a meaningful look and nod. I finish preparing with a sleek pair of black gloves. I follow Hange, Petra, Moblit, Oluo, and Mike out to the sleek black town cars parked out front. I can feel my my insides still in knots, but also there was a thirst for blood rising. Before each assignment, I became used to this feeling. It was so much more intense this time... I can feel my blood practically boiling.

 Hang on, Eren. I'm going to find you. And when I do, I'll tell you everything. Even if you hate me in the end, I don't care. I'm never going to let anything like this happen to you again.

Say 'Ah' Chapter 9: Exhale

Eren is trying to maneuver his body out of the chair but it's not working out in his favor. "Maybe if you had just been fucking honest with me, we wouldn't be here right now."

Is he fucking serious right now?

I look at him incredulously as best as I can, though my vision is still swimming and burning a bit. "You can't be serious. You want to fucking fight right now?"

Eren stares ahead for a few moments as if he's deep in thought and I wait. What he does next, if we weren't tied up in two chairs in the middle of an abandoned fish market, would have made me laugh.

He swiftly lifts his leg and lets it collide with my ankle. I bite back a sound of pain as my leg suddenly throbs. He somehow managed to remember exactly where the bullet from months ago had entered. I bite my lip and raise a glare at him. For being injured, he has a strong kick to him. I'll give him that.

"Feel better, you fucking brat?"

Say 'Ah' Chapter 8: Count Back from Ten

As I say this, something finally catches my eye. I level my gun and have a clear shot behind the barrel. My blood is hot in my veins as I keep my finger compressing against the trigger, ready to aim and shoot down whoever gets in my way. I step quietly and surely, closing one eye and preparing to shoot. Instead of nailing my target like I originally plan, I'm instead coming to a complete stop with wide eyes.

"Eren," I breathe.

His hair is caked with blood and dust, his head lolled to the side and he tries to raise it. His arms are tied behind him with a dirty rope and he's stuck in place in a chair that's nailed to the floor. His face is adorned with several cuts and bruises and his mouth is sufficiently gagged with a white cloth. He looks utterly worn and exhausted, barely able to make out that I'm right in front of him.
