If the gems' origins are unknown and they've been scattered for ages, how did you figure out that bringing them together would bring desirable consequences (ultimate power in your grasp) and not, say, some sort of curse upon you (your mind falling under an ancient being's control or the like)? What made you confident enough to risk any such surprises?
There was little to suggest danger to the wielder of the gems in any of the texts I read. It seemed that the gems submitted entirely to whoever was in possession of them, or close contact with them, and never as much as hesitated to perform whatever magic those people desired.
And anyway, even if something had happened when I brought them all together, the potential benefits were more important than the potential dangers.
Give us a rundown on those gems? What kinds are they, where do they come from, how do they confer ultimate power upon you?
Whoah, that’s a lot to answer all at once.
First off, I’m not really sure what kinds of gems they are. The white ones seem to be pearls, or at least they have a pearly finish, but other than that it’s all speculation based on color. Usually they determine these things with hardness tests and such, but the gems are indestructible, so that doesn’t really work. It doesn’t especially matter, either.
There’s no definite story on where they come from, either. There’s a number of texts referencing them throughout history and across the world, starting in Egypt around the time the pyramids were being built, when they were discovered after being previously hidden, likely by an earlier society without a system of writing. Since then they’ve periodically disappeared and then reappeared later in another place, likely being stolen and carried off. Early on, they got split apart from each other, and it’s been a bit of a hassle tracking them all down.
As to how they work, I’m not sure the exact mechanics, but they seem to spontaneously generate energy and magic that can be channeled by humans to various ends. The closer they are to the other gems, the more magic/energy they generate and the more that magic can do. With all of them in one place, namely my staff, there’s no limit to what they can do.
Weird question, but after noticing that you leave your tummy exposed I kind of have to wonder: are you ticklish, and if so, is leaving the means to your ultimate weakness out in the open like that a kind of taunt against your enemies?
