The Weight of Now
I thought dealing with the past was hard, Until I had to face the here and now. Trying to make sense of the tragedy Was like digging my own grave— But the present is far more terrifying. When I faced the trauma, it took everything I had. It stripped me bare, down to my core. A new kind of coldness crept in— Because carrying my pain had kept me warm. Not healthy, but familiar. Passion…
The first year I had Max, people were constantly telling me what a bad dog he was. He was energetic and loud and generally unruly. The thing is, I didn’t see him that way at all. He could walk by my side off the leash. We took him camping and hiking and once we even taught him how to catch fish in an overflowing ditch. Max wasn’t bad, people simply didn’t understand the needs he was communicating. Much of what he did was out of boredom or loneliness. It might sound silly but, dogs have taught me to understand humanity better than humans. They’re like the happy, easy, straightforward versions of us. Max made me realize that maybe everyone’s behavior can be linked to some underlying need. Maybe people do dumb and sometimes mean and confusing things out of boredom and loneliness and insecurity. It’s hard to see past the surface of someone but when we take a moment to understand the motivation of others, it’s possible to find compassion for them. It can help you understand that the person you love is chewing metaphorical couches because they are unsatisfied with how they spend their time. Max taught me to consider the “why” behind an action. Pretty wise for a bad dog, eh? #baddogs #maxthemonster #humanity #askingwhy #dogs #dogsareteachers #adventurepup https://www.instagram.com/mywildgardendream/p/Bv1wfC4FedW/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1ij0i5i6cup3m
Last few days have been emotionally draining and I can't see the sun for the clouds around me. But I know the fog will lift and I'll see clearly again. #sunsets #drained #askingwhy #godspaintbrush #itsgottogetbetter #heartache #healmyheart https://www.instagram.com/p/Bri6DJ7nNGa/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=pxmb3qtmlj53

Question to ask yourself today.
When you wake up how do you feel? Do you feel happy? Content? Depressed? Sad? Excited? What motivates you to get up?
Ramblings of Time
Where I live we are “falling back” this weekend, physically moving the numbers on a clock to presumably gain an hour of time on Sunday. It’s an odd concept to me. I used to only focus on the part that gave my ego permission to sleep longer. Now I realize I don’t need permission to sleep and the sun cares not what a clock displays. Humans created the concept of time. Our species created a system of numbers, fractions, measurements which our lives now revolve. Gone are the days looking at the moon to plan a harvest. In our current space we are held captive by time. Clock-in and clock-out, put your hours in to get paid. Mortgages, car notes, cell phone usage, vacations and visitation rights are all tied to time and yet most people don’t stop to ask why. Why are “always late” and “typically early” indicative of who we are as people? When did time become a symbol of wealth? Why is time something we pay for, especially if it doesn’t ‘really’ exist? And if it doesn’t really exist, why aren’t more people manipulating time? Our existence has become a merry-go-round of repetition measured by numbers. Mainstream industrial society has created automated individuals controlled by beeps, bells and gongs, robots. I don’t know these questions have answers but I love the deep wondering about our realities. What would you do with a sunrise and moonrise not measured by time? Would you wake up when your body was fully rested? Would you only eat when hungry? Would your soul be at ease? Your blood pressure and pulse slow? Your listening abilities more acute? Do you dare to explore and find out?
Asking why.
