Do you not like Max landis and Dirk Gently anymore? :c
i don't? know shit abt max landis, anon?? dghda is my first experience of his work that i know of. "bright" would have been my second if i could've sat through more of it, but i couldn't. if his work on that is any indication, though, i'm leaning towards "not a fan"
dirk gently, in all honesty, i do like! or well, season one of the show. season one i actually kind of loved. season two started out promising and quickly went downhill - all while the fandom seemed to neither care or notice, which has embittered the fuck outta me, because it wasn't subtle. from friedkin's season-long woobification - yes, season-long, priest was absolutely introduced to usurp his power/authority/villainy level while making the audience feel sympathetic for hugo - to ken's fuckign. f ucking. what did they even do to his character. besides lock him in a taxi for weeks/months and periodically electrocute him before turning HIM into the bad guy
and none of this even includes the parade of every manic pixie dream girl variant under the sun (seriously, i thought some of that rapunzel!lydia stuff in s1 felt weirdly gratuitous, and then the beast happened), or the super amazing lgbt rep of the one bisexual lady who wants to "fuck everybody" and the gay couple who share like half an hour of screentime all season, part of which they spend being murdered. the lady knight group barely got even that much. and don't get me wrong, i love the rowdy three, but i was kind of hoping for more development than "the one coherent white guy and his band of background/comic relief poc"
even the resurrections/mostly positive outcome felt cheap and predictable and i hate that more than anything because happy endings are what i live for??? but such as it was this season, even the twist ending of s1 left me feeling more hopeful. if s3 happens ... i'm not gonna lie, i'm feeling pretty damn ambivalent about it
