For fluff 39 āYouāre safe now, Iām here.ā I would like zukaang with Aang saying this to Zuko
oh thanks for the ask anon! I will admit I don't have a ton of experience writing for zukaang, but I will try my best just for you!
Zuko laid on the ground battered and injured from the fight that just concluded. A circle of dead troops was fanned around him, none of them making it through the attempted assassination.
He laid there, on edge, for the leader to come to finish him off. He should have moved and headed back to the palace, but he didn't want to risk being an easier target, so he stayed until he knew he was safe.
After what felt like three hours had passed, Zuko heard the light patter of footsteps running toward him. The leader must be checking to see if his soldiers finished the job.
With labored movements, Zuko swung his legs in a circular motion, summoning his inner fire, and pushed the fire outwards towards the footsteps.
Nothing was heard for a second, until the stranger's feet landed right next to Zuko's head. The Fire Lord sent a blast of fire towards him, only to have it extinguished by a strong gust of wind that could only be summoned by one person.
Aang.
The Avatar's face came into sight and the firebender's body visibly relaxed. He leaned into the strong hand of his lover, who wiped away a single tear that Zuko allowed to fall.
The airbender pulled him close and cooed, "Don't worry, you're safe now, I'm here."
He heavily exhaled, keeping his eyes closed believing Aang. He felt the familiar coolness of water running over his wounds being healed.
Aang carefully lifted the Fire Lord off the ground and cradled him as he called for Appa. "Let's go home," he murmured as he gently laid his partner on the sky bison's saddle.
