Snake Sitting

It didn’t seem possible that one small snake and one small human could get into so much trouble.  Chimes was currently wondering if they had ever been this much trouble when they were younger.

Come down please!  Worry colored their hiss as they looked up at the small, purple noodle currently dangling from the lights.

No!  Faust’s tiny hiss was more of a squeak as she swung from the lights.

Faust!  Chimes slithered across the counter, keeping an eye on the wayward noodle.  Down!  Now!  Or no skinks!

Faust let out a sad, pathetic hiss, slowly sinking down the light fixture and plopping back onto the counter.  Rude!  Was having fun!

Chimes  tapped her on the head with their tail.  Was dangerous.  What if you fell?

She let out sad hiss, ducking her head.  But float?

Spell makes you float, Chimes told her, winding around her to give her a tight squeeze.  But Aisha and Salim are out on date.  If you fell now, you’d get hurt.

Faust returned the squeeze, letting out a happy hiss.  Fine.  No more climbing.

With a sighing hiss of relief, Chimes unwound from around Faust, motioning for the younger familiar to follow them.  They knew Flamel and Asra were still in the living room.  Hopefully Flamel was having an easier time with the young magician than they were having with the young familiar.

Which, of course, turned out to be too much to hope for.

Asra!  Careful please!  Flamel wound around Asra’s arm, trying to get the small child to put down the very breakable tea pot.

“But tea?”  Asra looked between the snake and the teapot, confusion washing over his face.  “Wanted tea.”
