#asch experiment

the other day in sociology class i learned about the Solomon Asch experiment, which basically was him having 8 of his own members(who were secretly instructed to unanimously give a certain incorrect answer at specified points throughout the experiment) and one "naive" person match a standard line drawn on a card to one of the three comparison lines on another card. what this did was put the naive person in a position where the group contradicted the info of his/her senses. you would think that a person would stick to their gut feeling, but 32% percent of the participants changed their answers to fit in with the group. 32 may not be a lot, but i can think of many times where i witnessed people changing their valid opinions to somewhat fit in with the norm. shit's crazy. shit i used to be one of those unfortunate souls when i was younger. long text post short.. don't follow the crowd y'all.
