"On April 10, without his consent, and five days before setting his broken bones, military physician Joseph Howland injected [Ebb] Cade with 4.7 micrograms of plutonium- forty-one times the normal lifetime exposure. The man-made element plutonium is a "fiendishly toxic" radioactive substance, one that Cade's body would harbor forever: the half life, or time it takes half a dose of plutonium to disappear, is 24,056 years.
...Wright Langham, the chemist who devised the human experiment, justified the toxic injection by explaining to Manhattan Project physicians that "the subject was an elderly male whose age and general health was such that there is little of no possibility that the injection can have any effect in the normal course of his life." But Cade was only fifty-three and held down a grueling job hauling long trucks. Except for a cataract, he enjoyed excellent health.
Before they set Cade's broken legs, AEC doctors completed higher priority tasks. They extracted bone chips and pulled offer of his teeth to measure Cade's newly elevated plutonium levels; only then, five days later, did they set his broken bones. Six months later, Cade was still in the hospital, and in a September 1945 letter, Capt. David Goldring M.D., of Oak Ridge informed Langham that "more specimens and extracted teeth will be shipped to you very soon for analysis."
But before he could lose more teeth or bone, Cade slipped away. One morning, the nurse opened his door, and he was gone. Morgan recalled, "They were surprised that a Black man who had been expected to die got up and walked out of the hospital and disappeared." They were also disappointed: Doctors had hoped to autopsy Cade's body, because the purpose of the injection had not been to treat Cade, but to experimentally calibrate the plutonium's physiological destruction."

The anesthesia should keep you unconscious for the entire procedure, but there's a chance you'll wake up before I'm finished, and if that happens...well...that's what the restraints are for darling
Summary: Price and his team are being assigned the toughest mission yet. Watching over you. They aren't meant to sit in a very glorified safe house to make sure no one hurts you. You assume they've been updated on why they are here, on what you are. Unfortunately, the team is poorly informed on why you need them, but their about to find out.
"We aren't babysitters." Price threw the files back on her desk, huffing as he gestured over to his men. "We are for the field. We're here to work, not be stuck around to watch over a kid."
"They are 25, not a kid. Just younger. Unfortunately, until we can find another group to watch over them, you're the only group I currently trust." Laswell explains, gathering some loose papers knocked free from the file. "I did try to get you out of it. I didn't see the point of it either, but Sheppard insisted you four take the assignment."
"This is bullshit." Kyle mutters, but he holds Price's stare when his captain turns to him. "It is, sir. We're going to the middle of nowhere, for who knows how long, to watch over someone. Operation babysitting." He scoffs, and Simon grunts in agreement besides him.
Price sighs heavily through his nose. He should've known that his men would follow his lead, including his distain for the current mission they were assigned. He had to lead by example. No matter how badly he didn't want to do this, he needed to take charge.
"When do we deploy?"
You weren't at all what they expected.
Quiet, with eyes that stared almost unblinking, and teeth that looked a little too big for your mouth when you smiled at them. You wore long sleeves, baggy clothes that hung off your body, but you refused any size that would've fit you.
Quiet didn't even scratch the surface, though. You were almost silent, traversing through the safe house like you floated above the floors. You weren't heard before you were seen, and even Simon was unnerved by your silence.
The safe house wasn't quite what they expected either. It was a modern farm house style home, big, but in the middle of nowhere. On all sides, for miles, they were surrounded by thick forests.
After only three days, Johnny was the one who suggested you weren't human.
"So what would they be? A ghost?" Simon presses incredulously, raising his mask over his face to spark a cigarette. Outside smoking time was nice. They would do a small perimeter, let you get some fresh air in the overgrown garden, and have something to do other than sit in the house.
"I'm not sayin' their a ghost, Si! I'm sayin'... they didn't know what a phone was. What 25 year old that you know doesn't have a phone?" Johnny leans closer to the group as he presents his, albeit shaky, evidence.
"We don't know why they are here, or who they are hiding from." Price grumbles in annoyance, giving Johnny a pointed look. "Speculation isn't going to help."
"You don't think that this whole thing is strange? Even just a little?" Kyle pipes up, having been silent since they'd all sat down.
"I have my questions, but we have our orders, and we follow them. Y/N is a bit strange, but they've got their reasons." Price hesitates, knowing that he didn't really get much from your file. There wasn't much to you, and there wasn't a solid yes or no on if Y/N was your real name.
"Is there something in their file that you saw?" Simon presses, noticing the way Price furrows his brow. Before Price could answer, Johnny shot to his feet.
"Shit, Y/N is gone."
The team had become so involved in they're conversation, no one was double checking that you were safe. The backyard was empty, and there were only ten yards from the tree line. Price rose immediately, glad he'd kept himself and his team mostly dressed and ready for this. He would always be prepared, and once checking that the radios were on and ready; the team quickly split up into the woods to search for you.
"Should we call out for em?"
Johnny was covering Simon as they followed beside a foot path in the woods. There were boot prints, not ones the team had made, leading towards the house, but not away.
"We would blow our cover, Johnny.."
"What if they just ran off? To fuck with us for talking about em?" Johnny quips back, and ahead of them, a tree branch snaps.
"I highly doubt that." Simon murmurs, eyes scanning the area for any other signs of movement.
Movement came, and it came far too fast. A body flung across the foot path and slammed back first into a trees trunk. The sickening crack made Simon's stomach drop, and before he could begin to question if it was Price or Kyle, you came into view.
You had... grown into the size of your clothes, towering tall and gangly in an unnatural way. You crouched over the mans body, grabbed it, and tossing it again to test for a reaction. When you didn't get one, you let out a harsh grunt of approval, head turning toward Simon and Johnny.
"Jesus..." Johnny breaths in horror, your eyes sucken in on your face, skin drawn tight across your body in a painful looking way. He grabs hold of Simon's bicep and squeezes hard when Simon raises his gun. "Do not shoot." He hisses, eyes never leaving yours.
"That's not a fucking human." Simon growls, pushing himself in front of Johnny and fixing his gun on you. Within seconds, you crossed the space between him, grabbing the gun and ripping it out of his hands. Simon tries to scramble back, but you grab hold of him. Your hand took up his entire torso, yanking him close to your face.
"I was. Before." You rasp, eyes searching across his face. Behind you, a gun fires. Your grip tightens involuntarily, a shriek leaving your lips as you let him go and raise to your full height. Your head snaps quickly toward Price, Kyle not far behind him with his gun slowly lowering.
You let out another shriek, and despite the new wound in your leg, begin bolting away from the team and toward the safe house. The woods fell silent. No birds, no bugs. Just the sound of their harsh breathing as they looked between themselves. They needed to get on the phone with Laswell, with two important questions.
What the fuck just happened, and what the fuck had they been signed up for.
This is loosely based on an OC that I've created, though I'll be changing a few details. After all, this is fan fiction. You may be asking yourself, Cryptid, shouldn't you finish the series you've started before you start more? And to that I say, you can't stop the brain worms.
VERD_091 was very lost. He didn't remember much from before the lab. He was searching for something… or maybe someone? Then he was hiding for some reason? After that, pain and darkness, then he woke up at the laboratory.
The people in white coats were bad, always touching and prodding him with needles, taking blood and saliva, and talking about him as if he weren't there at all, about what a disappointment he was, too small and weak in comparison to the others who survived their tests.
At first, he was happy he survived; now he wasn't so sure he did. He couldn't remember who or what he was before he lost his identity. The person he was doesn't exist anymore; in a way, he must have died. Sometimes when he looks at his hand/paws/claws? or when he catches a glimpse of his tail, he freezes in shock for some reason, and when he is alone in the dark, he tears up a bit.
He remembered fighting the first month, clawing and biting at anything coming too close. He couldn't do that anymore; the muzzle and the chains only allow him to eat or be tested on.
They couldn't use him as a weapon as he was; he needed to be trained.
At first, they would put him with the others; they call the best ones Tyrants. He doesn't like them, but they don't try to hurt him unless given the order to. Also, they have clothes; he can't remember why it matters, but he feels a tiny bit jealous that they do and he doesn't.
The others listen and obey. Him? Not so much… It must be why he is punished a lot. At first it was with pain, then with loneliness in a cold place; cold enough for him to hurt but not fall in the deep sleep.
And then the alarms blared and the lady in red took him far away from the bad lab.
He is in a new lab now but at least he saw the stars before coming here. There's a new man with a with coat but for some reason, he hasn't hurt him yet even when he broke stuff, which seems like a trap so he stays near the lady in red who smells familiar; she saved him once, she might help again if he is good… maybe…
VERD_091 is Leon, nobody call him that at the lab so he forgot, but do not worry it will come back, Ada and Luis don't know yetbut soon.
I'm rereading "Detective Conan: Case Closed" (one of my favorite manga ever), so the way Leon got caught was heavily inspired by the beginning of it.
Don't hesitate to tell me if there are mistakes or parts that don't make sense. I try my best, but often my translations into English are bad even with a traductor.
Damian and Danny are twins. The difference? Talia didn't hide Danyal from JUST Bruce, Damian had never known himself. Danny was a sickly child as well as the younger twins, so when Damian was declared the Heir that Ra's Al Ghoul wanted, the spare was disposed of.
Talia, in this one she actually cares quite a lot about her childres, and couldn't stand the idea of killing her child, so she instead sent him to an orphanage in Bumfuck Nowhere Amity Park. Both Danny and Damian were still infants at the time and would not have remembered each other.
Danny gets adopted by the Fentons and gets turned into a halfa at 14, all the things. But when it came time to tell the Fentons, they did not take it well. Jazz was out of town, in Central City, working in her degree. Sam and Tucker were out of town, both dragged off to some event or other in separate states. Danny was caught transforming, didn't have time to escape before the Fentons dragged him into the lab.
Talia has been keeping tabs on he youngest. She's very proud of the name he's made for himself even after dying. She isn't in a position to save him. If her father had found out she hadn't killed Danyal like ordered, she'd be punished and Danyal killed. She goes to the only other person she can trust with this. She goes to Bruce and Damian.
She doesn't really explain it, just tells Bruce Damian had been a twin, that she had to fake the twin's death when they had still been too young to remember each other and why, and that Danyal was now in danger from hsi own foster family. She gave him a copy of one of Fenton's research papers, a copy of the Anti-Ecto Acts, and the medical records from Danny's accident... all things she had stolen for herself when it had happened, and it became clear Danny was a meta. She had been trying to protect him, making his abnormalities look temporary and adjusting his vitals to look like a human who just had a really, really bad shock.
Danyal had always been her favorite, not due to anything Damian had done, but simply due to the fact that her Father had si h a close eye on his Heir she wasn't allowed to have any sort of relationship with him that wasn't pre-approved. Where with Danny he has a particularly familiar looking babysitter who would look after him and Jazz when he was younger, and his parents were on a research binge for weeks on end or out of town. Oddly enough only he had known about her because Jazz never mentioned anything about Miss Thalia
Bruce is mentally making a list of questions for after he saves his unknown son. For fucks sake Talia! Why didn't she give him Danyal! Why is she like this! But right now it is far more important to save him from his adoptive parents. The laws and research were quickly sent to the Justice League. They can start finding this GIW. And fighting the laws. Bruce and his kids have a kid to save. Fenton's to arrest. He just hopes he gets there in time.

ArtFight piece for @marlindotzip of her OC Terracotta :D After having been secretly experimented on by a fucked up scientist, she gets rescued, but is unable to go back to living her normal life. Now she's part of a secret organization's team, and though she does have a couple of friends, she secretly wants out
Peter is Dick’s actual son, no universe crossing involved in this one. However, Dick had no idea he had a son. Rather, Dick had been specifically targeted by Peter’s mother (an ambitious but insane scientist), because of his genes. A specific genetic makeup that while it doesn’t affect the parent in any way, does allow for the offspring to survive and adapt to cross species genetic engineering. One little one night stand where an 18 year old Dick had thought he had used protection. They part ways the next morning, and Dick has basically forgotten the encounter by the next week. Which is exactly what she wants.
Peter escapes his mother and the facility he had been held in when he is 10. Found by Poison Ivy, who brings him to May and Ben Parker. (She and May were friends before Ivy’s villain days.)
He lives with and learns from the Parker for (however long you want), until his mother and her henchmen find him. Peter is recaptured, Ben and May killed (but May manages to contact Ivy and tell her right before her last breath), and Ivy seeks the help of the Bats to free Peter.
Only, when they track the scumbags to their hideout, scientists and guards alike are dead or crippled on the ground, a lot of the torture equipment is completely destroyed, and Peter is nowhere to be seen. A lot of the computer files about the experiments and their subject (Peter) can be salvaged, and it is then that Dick learns of his fatherhood.
Horrified about what his son has been through, all he wants is to find him and bring him home and keep him save.
