This rule is one of my favorites. I put a lot of pressure on myself to only make work that’s meant to be a finished project: maybe something I can sell, or put on my portfolio site, or otherwise be a complete masterpiece. But everything I make doesn’t have to be a big fucking deal. Working on things that don’t have any specific purpose or goal is fine; I’m going to learn something from it regardless. And approaching every project as an experiment can be really rejuvenating to the creative juices because there is less pressure to produce the finest thing I’ve ever done at the end. 

This rule seems especially relevant to me right now. I’m trying to be more disciplined in my work as a designer. Sometimes I am overwhelmed by the options of how to approach a concept, so I think finding a style I like and sticking with it for a while and experimenting with it within its own rules is a good step towards exploring my own style. I’ve been digging this fat, cursive hand-lettering style I’ve been using, so I’m gonna apply it to the rest of Sister Corita’s rules, too!
