Unleash Your Learning Potential: The Feynman Technique đ
Student life often comes with the challenge of grappling with complex concepts and information. The Feynman Technique, named after the Nobel Prize-winning physicist Richard Feynman, is a simple yet powerful method to master any subject, especially the trickiest ones.
What is the Feynman Technique? The Feynman Technique comprises four straightforward steps:
Select a Concept: Pick the concept, topic, or subject you wish to master or study. It could be a tough textbook chapter, a complex theory, or a brand-new idea.
Teach It Simply: Imagine you're explaining the chosen concept to someone elseâwhether a friend, a family member, or an imaginary student. Use everyday language and real-life examples to make it as clear as possible.
Identify Gaps: While you explain the concept, you might stumble upon gaps in your knowledge or areas where you struggle to simplify it. These gaps highlight where you need to focus your learning efforts.
Review and Simplify: Return to your study materials (like textbooks, lecture notes, or online resources) to fill in those knowledge gaps and deepen your understanding. Keep breaking down complex ideas into simpler terms until you can explain the concept effortlessly.
Why Does It Work? The Feynman Technique capitalizes on various effective learning principles:
Simplified Understanding: Teaching a complex topic in simple terms forces you to dissect it into its fundamental components. This clarifies your own understanding and ensures you grasp the concept at its core.
Identifying Gaps: When you struggle to explain a concept, it shines a light on areas of uncertainty or incomplete knowledge. This self-assessment guides your further study.
Active Engagement: Actively teaching and explaining a concept engages your brain far more effectively than passive reading or note-taking.
Repetition: Revisiting the concept multiple times during explanation and review phases reinforces your memory and understanding.
Effective Communication: Developing the ability to convey complex ideas in simple terms is a valuable skill that can enhance your academic and professional success.
How to Apply the Feynman Technique: Let's break down how to put the Feynman Technique into practice:
Select Your Topic: Choose a concept, theory, or subject that you find challenging or want to master.
Explain It to a Friend: Imagine you're teaching this topic to a friend with no prior knowledge of the subject. Use everyday language and real-world examples to make it accessible.
Identify Your Knowledge Gaps: As you explain, pay attention to areas where you struggle to simplify or clarify. These are your knowledge gaps.
Review Your Materials: Return to your study materials (textbooks, lecture notes, online resources) to fill in the gaps and deepen your understanding.
Repeat as Needed: Keep going until you can effortlessly teach the concept to your imaginary friend, using simple language and clear examples.
Test Yourself: To cement your understanding, test yourself by explaining the concept without looking at your notes or study materials.

Capitalist Hegemony: The Politics Challenge of Alter-Globalization
Jessica C. Tselepy (2015)
The article for critique gives discussion of the Capitalist Hegemony: The Political Challenge of Alter- Globalization. Essentially, the article states the democracy of capitalism, inequality, neoliberalism, world order, political economy and alter- globalization hegemony. Foremost, in the article discussion, is the author view about varied alter- globalization movements has inspired global contemplation of the flaws inherent in capitalist hegemony, the political impracticality of polycentrism has left the movement unable to articulate effective counter- hegemonic collective will
Evident from very succinct statement in the article, this article was written from a purely political by altering the course of globalization. The author was attempting to send regarding the global financial crisis, inequity, and com modification. He referred to the capitalist alter- globalization hegemony.
The article was long, accurate, and exact. However I would ask a journalist a few questions for clarification. First, How this issue reflect to the other issue? Secondly, what is the partially remove or collect?
The issue of capitalist hegemony has an effect in a globalization. Failure democracy suffer from injustice, unjustness, and unfairness. These devastating effects the economy and manpower. In additional, these issue can challenge the political in alter- globalization in democracy.
This article discusses in detail the alter- globalization, from political economy, neoliberalism, world order and capitalism. Have a self rule. Hegemony is an issue in democracy.
Overall, the articles give me knowledge about capitalist hegemony and I found it a bit interesting. However, it is long article that you need to a deep analyzing the text. As a critical thinker, I was saying, enhance more discussing the issue.

Itâs not a Hamilton thing, and itâs not a homework thing (both of which I should have probably done instead of writing this).
I wrote a thing about Cosmopolitanâs Demisexuality Article. Itâs 1300+ words, and Iâm pretty proud of it. If youâre interested, itâs under the cut.
A Demisexual Reads Cosmopolitanâs âEverything You Need To Know About Demisexualityâ Article (On Snapchat 3/19/17)
When I first Saw Cosmoâs article, Iâll admit I was a little bit excited. Finally something on large scale media about my small scale sexuality. I myself had learned about it from a favorite YouTuber and after realizing I identified closely, did more research on the topic of demisexuality and the ace-spectrum in general. I assumed most people would swipe by this particular article because it wasnât something people know well enough to catch their attention, but it was at least a way to get the word âdemisexualâ out there in the universe besides the community of Tumblrites and Youtubers that I know so I gave it a shot. Iâm now going to put a disclaimer here: *Everybody interprets their sexuality differently. I am basing most of my critique on personal experience and research. Somebody who experiences and identifies demisexuality differently than I do may disagree with my statements, but I will try to be as general and informative as possible. This is just a reaction to some of the statements made in the initial article*
What initially caught my eye were the chosen photographs to accompany the article. The title page is a man and a woman sensually kissing with rose petals falling and sexy music in the background. The photo in the middle of the article is of a girl in her underwear lying âsexilyâ on a bed. As a demisexual I donât quite understand this choice. As a critic Iâm a little bit concerned for those who are not familiar with demisexuality. If this is someoneâs first exposure to demisexuality and the ace-spectrum, I would say this is very misleading for the obvious reason. Asexual⌠as in, Not Sexual.
The article is set up simply. A few general questions those who donât know what demisexuality is are bolded and used as headers for paragraphs that give the information. The first one reads:
âWhat is Demisexuality?â
The first paragraph answering this question is pretty basic. It explains how not everyone is into casual sex and may prefer to have an emotional connection first, but people who are demisexual require an emotional connection. Pretty simple, pretty accurate. Good job Cosmo! The only thing that stuck out to me was the last line âItâs part of their sexual orientationsâ. It may have been unintentional, and I could be wrong but there are some people (myself included) who use demisexual as their standalone orientation. I have also seen variations such as demibisexual, pandemisexual, etc. but in my experience most people just call it their sexual orientation. Many demisexuals accompany their demisexuality with a romantic orientation (heteroromantic, homoromantic, biromantic, etc.) but that is a separate entity than the sexual orientation. This is just a minor critique, but it did stand out to me as I read.
In the second paragraph, the Demisexuality Resource Center and AVEN are referenced. Great! The article explains asexuality a little, since demisexuality is on the asexual spectrum. This part was pretty well done. I especially liked the ââŚdemisexuals are capable of sexual attraction but only in specific circumstances, not on a regular basis.â While this is true for other sexualities, especially those on the ace-spectrum, in the context of the article and demisexuality for those who donât know about it, this is a good way to describe it. What I didnât like was how the author goes on to say that demisexuals sometimes refer to themselves as gray-ace. While this is true, I also have seen that gray-aces are their own sexuality as well. Through my research Iâve noticed that a lot of the ace-spectrum compensates for the lack of representation by lumping together for ease of explanation, but I felt as if this was an erasure of gray-aces who donât identify as demisexuals as well.
The next heading was âWhat is it like to be demisexual?â, and it opens with a quote from a writer who is demisexual. Yes! Using demisexual people in a demisexual article is pretty important to understanding because weâre the people who know how to explain it best. The quote very accurately described the absence of sexual desire that accompanies the ace-spectrum in a demisexual way.
The next paragraph has a quote from the Demisexuality Resource Center, and talked about how little representation of asexuality and specifically demisexuality there is in pop culture and how that contributes to the âbrokennessâ that a lot of demisexual people feel. This whole section was well written and explained in a simple yet accurate way how demisexuals feel. Youâre doing great, Cosmo!
The last heading is âWhat do critics of the label say?â and hereâs where I get most fired up. First paragraph in this section is relatively good. It explains the unfortunately typical responses many demisexuals face, especially when coming out. Pretty simple, pretty accurate, can maybe get the general audience to now see what we get hit with out in the world. Props to the author of the article for having this be the ending section of the article as well. Had they led with these general misconceptions, the audience may have gotten these claims stuck in their heads before they even learned about asexuality and demisexuality. The authorâs next paragraph talks about how demisexuals describe their sexual feelings and how âthey literally donât get turned onâ unless the emotional connection is there.
The next sentence is about people with low sex drive due to depression, hormonal imbalances, and more, which is good for comparison, I agree, but the end of the sentence completely disregards what the whole previous section of the article was about. The article says they get âbotheredâ by the lack of sex drive, and feel like somethingâs missing. While this is probably true (I have no experience to back this up) the next sentence states that demisexuals feel that how theyâre experiencing attraction is part of who they are.
While this isnât untrue, it can be misleading. Many demisexuals, as the author said in the previous section, feel that something is missing, that they're broken. Many donât even realize that thereâs a term for how they feel sexual attraction. In my personal sexuality journey, I would get very scared when I did feel sexual attraction because it wasnât something I normally experienced, but when I didnât experience it I was different from everyone else.
At the end, it does say that a version of the article was published in February of 2015, so maybe thereâs more to this article than Iâm seeing. Itâs kind of expected considering the size restraints of the Snapchat article. I also havenât researched if the author of the article is demisexual, so that could also play a factor in the research and writing of the article in the first place.
Overall, Iâd give this article a 4/10. It was decent, in my opinion. It gave the gist of demisexuality, but it didnât do a very good job of showing the small pinpoint it is on the spectrum of asexuality. It also contradicted itself, as I said, but maybe thatâs just syntax.
Even though Iâm the only (out) demisexual person I know, this article didnât go unnoticed like I assumed in the beginning. My boyfriendâs best friend sent the article to him, knowing that Iâm demisexual. My boyfriend and I had a good laugh about it, considering the article provided a minimal amount of information compared to my boyfriend and I living it through our sexual relationship and my own sexuality. In the end, everyoneâs experience with their sexuality will be a bit different from the next person over, and labels are what you make of them. I think itâs a good thing that the world has seen a glimpse into the life of a demisexual, but I also think itâs difficult to write a piece for a sexuality so paradoxically specific and general and I hope I captured the complexities in my own writing.

Writeup #4: What was your experience in coming up with your own research after your article critique?
Words by: Asthrielle
Coming up with my own research after completing the article critique was quite challenging for me. One of the biggest hurdles was the time pressure. The limited time to conceptualize and organize my ideas made it difficult to fully focus and produce a well-thought-out research capsule.
I struggled with generating a suitable title for my research. The article we critiqued was quite lengthy, which made it challenging to distill the key ideas and transform them into a concise, relevant, and original title. It felt overwhelming to sift through all the information and pinpoint a focus that could align with my research goals while staying true to the essence of the critiqued article.
I felt incredibly stressed when the time was up, especially since I wasnât able to complete all the details I had planned to include. It left me feeling like I could have done better if I had more time or had approached the task differently. This experience was frustrating, but it also taught me the importance of time management and preparation in handling similar tasks in the future.
Overall, the process required a lot of effort, and it was a valuable learning experience, as it taught me how to synthesize information under pressure and sharpen my critical thinking skills.

I read some absolutely braindead article that claimed that people, ( women in particular) may raise the pitch of their voices when talking to others, because they feel men are more dominant in the conversation. What the actual fuck dude? Like nah, I just have social anxiety. I'm a misanthrope. Ever heard of it? Obviously not. Some psychotherapist.
Also in the same breath, they claim a man raises the pitch of his voice when talking to women the same way they would with a child... so you're condescending assholes then? Apparently women are on the same cognitive ability as a child, according to these supposed "professionals" ?
Well, in the wide wise words of Peter Griffin: "If I'm a child, then that would make you a pervert wouldn't it? And I won't stand here and be insulted by a pervert." (Pedophile essentially.)
Ps. Also, how do you know I'm not talking to men the way I'd talk to a child, huh? Y'all certainly think like a bunch of kids... Girls! Ewwwww cooties!
