Okay, so I took a little break to finish this beast of an illustration. This one was tough, but probably the one I'm most proud of. This took essentially 6 to 7 weeks to complete. I'm exhausted but excited to share it with you. Prints available in bio. Including a new glorious poster size. Again, there a so many people I wish I could have included, but I just drew the ones I wanted to highlight this year. I am a little bummed I didn't get highlight more icons individually, some of which you're not going to immediately recognize like Bass Reeves, Jesse Owens, and Langston Hughes. The rest are spot on so I don't feel the need to name them. Hi everybody! I get so many questions about why my art is so colourful, why do I use these colours, why these combinations etc. The reality is that my rainbow style comes from a lot of pain experienced over my life, both physical and emotional. That flower above was the first thing I painted after coming out of hospital after 2 near death experiences within the span of 8 days :o I started creating art when I was a small child, and my childhood was filled with a lot of emotional pain which is ongoing. Art served and still serves as a solace, and it is a way to bring colourful things into a painful reality. The act of creating things was empowering and allowed me to focus on something positive even when things were going crazy around me. In some ways we are the architect of our own reality, and from a young age I learned that art could bring colourful things into a very bleak world. Seeing how colourful ordinary things could be really has gotten me through some tough periods of my life. I make my videos so that I can share with you my happy place, free of anxiety and stress and share with you the sense of solace I get from the act of creation.
