I am so very glad that Disney is finally actually branching out and creating movies set in/based around other cultures.
It is clearly something that is great for there company, especially based on the revenue they gain from each movie, so I don't understand why they don't do it more - other than the blatant racism, obviously.
The success of Encanto proves entirely that they really can go so far with these ideas and exploration of non-european cultures, as long as they do it right. I am so excited for their next project (probably not for many years, or a bad sequel, but still desired.) following unique cultures.
callout for @roblutece

I have two hyperfixations at the moment; one is Encanto and one is Southpark...
...I don't think it's racist that Disney started out portraying fairy tales from their original places of origin. However, it is refreshing to see them branching out to other cultures and countries too! I too want more from all over the world :D
I think you heavily misinterpreted what I stated in my post when I mentioned racism (/nm.)
I meant that Disney has spent many years actively avoiding casting POC, creating movies about non-white cultures and even mentioning them in positive ways. This has been damaging to POC youth in so many ways, and I am extremely glad for them to be finally branching out and allowing us to see people like us on the big screen.
I did not say it was racist for them to start off creating movies based upon European fairytales. That was a difference sentence entirely, and I didn't mention their beginnings at all (which is literally over 80 years ago.) I was simply stating that they have had all the chances to include other cultures and people, whilst knowing it was desired heavily by their audience, but have refused to do so for so long - or when they did, used it to push gentrification, racist stereotypes and exploit POC.
im almost to a hundred followers.....
