The motorcycle debate was ongoing and had been for years. It was really the only point of contention between her and Matt. She coveted that motorcycle, and all she wanted to do was drive it. And Matt would not let her. She didn’t know why. She was a good driver!

how and why did kristy end up working in law? specifically in a company like aldc as opposed to corporate law etc?

Kristy truly has a caring heart, even if she can seem cutthroat and frigid in the courtroom. When she joined the ALDC, she had been working at a family law office, but it was very private and she only dealt with families who had money. At the ALDC, she is able to help more families when they’re the most desperate.

She hadn’t known what she wanted her discipline to be when she was accepted to law school, but she knew she had a couple years to figure it out. She thought about criminal law, but she knew that was far more stressful than she wanted. All the things like corporate law, constitutional law, labour law and international law were out of her realm. Sure, she had been a bit of a history buff, so constitutional law had been in her radar for a moment, but the family law really tugged on her heart strings, so she knew that was wher she was meant to be.

She deals with divorce and custody cases the most.

Of all the careers she wanted, law fit with her goals she had at the time in college. Get a good paying job, pay off her student loans, travel when she wanted. Then she was married to Matt and they had talked about kids. She had already started into her discipline, but decided to change when she audited a family law class and she realized how she could help families to be like how hers had been as a kid. Wholesome and safe. Every child deserved that.

it’s not that she’s scared of motorcycles. there are plenty of things she is scared of - roadside motels, eating during search and rescue, her cat when he gets a certain look in his eyes - but motorcycles are not one of them. look, she’ll even agree! they’re sexy, it’s a whole thing. she has gone bright red more than once watching a woman in an action movie take off a helmet and whip her hair around. 

it’s just - 

she has survived a lot. a lot. things that people, in general, don’t survive. statistically, getting kidnapped and impaled is not something you survive. getting kidnapped more than once usually isn’t something you survive. she has climbed out of overturned motor vehicles with a broken rib and a concussion. 

she’s been very lucky, statistically. and she’s not superstitious, but there’s gonna be one that gets her eventually.  

is it going to be motorcycles? maybe not. but still -

none of that changes the fact that she’s currently strapping on a motorcycle helmet while complaining to matt.  

Kristy opened up her arms to her husband, and she smiled big. Having him home was such a relief. Things had been becoming more and more hectic, and the time they spent together was just more and more precious.
