I remembered this clip and thought it sounded like some shit Argle would say if he was put in a role like that.

(He's 17, like a year older than Jewel so it makes it funny for me)

from this time I think the beginning of the conditional is something like - I’m reading someone; they write good points, say things I wouldn’t have thought of, say things better than I would/know things I don’t/etc. (I’m not sure if this is always the case, I’m not remembering past times as specifics).

And then they say something I’m - not so happy to just agree with.

And my brain does that thing where like - I can start thinking of reasons against it etc, but the feeling is that like - I’m on the defensive, they’re the one who ?is right? must be right? is positioned as right? something. And I’m just like, :arguing but it won’t change that:. (Argh how to express this).

As opposed to my brain just being able to be like ‘ok, they have good thoughts on a lot of things but on this thing they’re wrong, all right’.

And I don’t know why this happens! (And annoyingly noticing it doesn’t seem to make it go away, either!)

(An interesting thing relating to this is that I don’t think this happens for positions I already know I disagree with/consider myself against. And not even just like, isms (though I think that too), other sorts of positions on things too.

Which makes me actually wonder if that’s like - a reason why it’s psychologically useful/beneficial to have this mental concept of ‘Thing and my position on it/|side I’m on|’ that that helps with problems like this?)
