🇵🇹 Depression Martinho Hits Portugal: Destruction and Wildfires
🌧☄️ On the night of March 20, atmospheric depression #Martinho brought stormy winds and heavy rainfall to #Portugal. Between 00:00 and 07:00, 4,214 incidents were recorded across the country, mostly involving fallen trees and structural damage. The #Lisbon region was the hardest hit.
🔥 An atmospheric depression is a low-pressure system that brings strong winds, heavy rain, and sudden weather changes. In the north of the country, just hours before the storm intensified, wildfires broke out, threatening residential areas. Fire outbreaks were reported in the municipalities of #Arcos-de-Valdevez, #Paredes-de-Coura, and #Ponte-da-Barca. Around 100 firefighters battled the flames, but strong winds and poor visibility made their efforts extremely difficult.
