Tips of making a good architecture project poster;
The professors at my university always tell me that; for a good presentation you need good posters. That is why I always work on my posters so hard.
For making a good poster there are some tips you may find useful.
I am sorry if I make some mistakes in english. It is not my first language.
1-You are not a graphic designer, you are an architecture student.
It is good to know that, your professors do not expect some really professional posters from you. The point of making those posters is to show your project. Not to show how good you are at making posters. So do not let your posters look better than your project.
If you have so much time to spend you can make some hand-made posters. But if you are an architecture student I bet you do not have so much time. So Photoshop would be your hero too. It is really easy to create posters If you try to use it a little you will figure it out easily.
It is probably the most important part of making a poster. Okay we know you have a great project and you are dying to explain why is that window oriented to south façade. You have so much to tell about your project BUT do not write everything you want to explain on your poster. Do not forget that; your poster accommodate multiple people reading it at the same time, so breaking your text up is important. You can make an analysis poster and explain your project a little bit more but it is not really necessary.
Text size is another problem on a poster. For sure; your title will be the largest size. And use same size for your text on your poster.But it is a good idea to use larger size to emphasis the more important parts of your text. Always remember that people are reading it at two scales: from far away and close up.
The important thing on here; to choose impressive parts of your project and make people read that parts from far away. Then if they are impressed, they come and check the rest of your project.
And please please please if it is not necessary do not use comic sans text font. It is not really good for an architectural project. Helvetica would be a nice option for the first time. Also you can check some fonts on the internet and download them.
When you print your poster you will see the colour will not look the same as they seem on your computer. They will seem darker and intense. That is why to change your images brightness and contrast is important. Unless it is not a really colourful project you can change its saturation and make images more soft. Using pastel colour is always better for a poster designing.
It is obvious you work so hard on your architectural modelling. You still have a backache. You really want to show your model photos on your poster. Then you need really good photos from the right perspective. The aim of making a model is to show people how it will be like in the real life. If the photos you took, seem like a real place you can use them on your poster. But if they look like a model, what is the point to put them on your poster? It does not look so professional to put your modelling photos on your poster with a title -‘’my modelling works’’
Always remember that; your poster have to explain your project even though you are not around for trying to tell what is the aim of it.
