alec lightwood is a huge history nerd tbh?? like he’s read every piece of shadowhunter history/lore he can get his hands on and his most prized possessions are a growing collection of field journals from various nephilim dating back to the time of the angels. because, okay like, for all that alec is suddenly kissing warlocks and saying ‘fuck the clave’ he’s actually super big on tradition and family and culture? and there’s something about reading historical accounts of his ancestors that just makes him feel like he’s a part of something bigger, you know? that he belongs to something

(and maybe he has several journals by one particular shadowhunter that he read for the first time when he was much younger, so he’s always held him in kind of hero status, rereading his journal entries over and over like a mundane kid would an adventure novel? and he would sometimes read the passages where this shadowhunter talked about his own parabatai and wonder maybe maybe..)

Thanks, all of you. Internet support means a lot to me, and my family and I are fortunate to have lots of in-person support as well. People from church and my dad’s work are bringing meals to my mom, with enough for my siblings and I if/when we go hang out with her in the evenings. People who know about that stuff are helping my mom figure out all the legal/financial/insurance stuff (of which there’s a lot because death in this day and age is tied up in a bunch of weird mundanities). And my babies help lift everyone’s spirits (or at least provide a distraction because it’s hard to think about anything besides “dear god how do I make it stop what do you WANT” when there’s a crying baby).

general opinion: fall in a hole and die | don’t like them | eh | they’re fine I guess | like them! | love them | actual love of my life hotness level: get away from me | meh | neutral | theoretically hot but not my type | pretty hot | gorgeous! | 10/10 would banghogwarts house: gryffindor | slytherin | ravenclaw | hufflepuffbest quality: her thirst for knowledge but also her loyaltyworst quality: i think like being opinionated? and she’s not quick in accepting other ppl’s viewsship them with: ron (ugh such a beautiful otp) but then also some  like  hermione/ginny and hermione/fred (bless them tbh) and a very small one bc i was pulled in by fic theo/hermionebrotp them with: harry, also ginny (bc they are such good friends and the movies lost that i feel)needs to stay away from: draco (yikes i just dont see it, but nothing against it though)misc. thoughts: hermione, the love of my life.  I feel like a lot of girl growing up connected with hermione and i still hold that place for her in my heart.  Like i just love hermione for being a character but not a perfect one.  She makes mistakes, in her friendships and is headstrong in her opinions but she’s still a good character and grows throughout the series and i just love her so much.

um, i love this?? here's the question though - where does he learn it? ..like consider: since the institute is in a church, maybe they never removed the old decomissioned organ from the sanctuary? (i know an organ and a piano are not the same instrument but they are in the same family okay, work with me here..) and maybe he finds it when he's really young and he works to restore it because it's a such a beautiful old instrument. and honestly? it mostly just gives him something to do when his parents are on their near-constant trips to Idris that he's no longer invited to, since he's too old to need a babysitter but still too young to be allowed out on missions?

but then after he fixes it, it seems a waste for it to just sit there? so he finds some old sheet music and a dusty book on technique and slowly teaches himself. and it's an organ right, so it's not like it's a secret after that point. whenever he plays it drifts down the hallways of the institute, low melancholy echos that cause the other shadowhunters to pause is the middle of conversations and strain their ears towards the sound. and it's so calming for him? and like, as he gets older and starts going on missions and taking on more and more responsibility, he has less and less time for music, but it still holds such an important place in his heart?

so alas, i myself am not a musical theater gay (much to the dismay of all the musical theater gays in my life), BUT that is not to say i don’t love this hc for alec because i absolutely do. i love love love the image you just put in my head of malec snuggling on the couch, moved to tears by some crappy bootleg (but when magnus sees how enthralled alec is, he promises to take him to the real thing next time??)

and like in general, i just really love the idea of alec falling in love with little bits of mundane culture he picks up from magnus, but also like, specifically gay mundane culture??

like okay, one of my best friends (who is a musical theater gay, and who, like alec, grew up in a homophobic society where he was not exposed to gay culture until later in life) one of his legit favorite hobbies is to spend hours on youtube watching gay proposal/wedding videos?? like i would come home some nights when we lived together to find him crying on the couch with his laptop on the table and a glass of wine in his hand and i would know it was one of Those Nights you know??? and that is 100% alec lightwood tbh
