a male(?) Garden Orbweaver resting in the crevice of a fencepost as he awaits the night. Females are nocturnal hunters, constructing their large webs at night to catch flying insects, and dismantling them come sunrise. Adult males spend the night seeking out these females to mate.
Unknown Garden Orbweaver, male(?) (genus Hortophora).
:) giant beautiful spider we found, I saw just its web the other day but didn't realize the spider had built its house in these leaves it had folded up!!!
I was like "Oh I bet a really cool spider built that web, but I guess I'll never know..." Nope it was just hanging out in its leaf house!
According to iNaturalist is a giant lichen orbweaver (Araneus bicentenarius), which is definitely a suitable name.
