ID: Western Black Widow (Latrodectus hesperus)
I find it very fascinating that two of the same species of black widow can look so different from one another. Here’s two of the most impressive black widows i’ve photographed

Beautiful lady on my porch.
me, who has a serious bug phobia: please don't. the giant spider in the kitchen: hello, i've come to speak to you about your cars extended warranty. (:
concept of two gay t4t orb weavers trying to make their relationship work…do you build webs side by side? take turns riding each other? how do you manage it at the same size? do you just stare longingly at each other all day?
alternatively, lesbian t4t orb weavers having to sneak around and steal food from other webs…will they end up someone’s meal or will they get a third in their relationship?
BELLUM. ok ok ok after meeting Vic and his various bugs and arachnids
Jack starts to kinda wanna get one of her own
she's already, probably, got her rescue dog Eezo, but I'd imagine despite being aggressive and defensive (when he starts out lmao, he really is just a cuddlebug once she puts the work and love in) he'd mostly leave her "spider box" alone and she'd keep the enclosure where Eezo couldn't get to it
this is the one she gets
"Brazilian black" I think it's called ? the scientific name is Grammostola pulchra and I've seen a couple articles mentioning they're very good for beginners and have a great, calm temperament especially about being handled
YES
MY GIRL STARTS HER SPIDER COLLECTION WITH A BIG OLD TARANTULA (well. she buys a baby one that will grow. I think they can get up to like 7" ??? big lady)
her name is Raven and no Jack is not taking fucking criticism on the way she names her animals

There is a small neighbourhood of daddy long leg spiders currently living in my bathroom which is chill. I’ve got no problem with daddy long legs and am also anti bug killing unless completely necessary so I’m happy for them to just hang out I guess.
Except two of them (the biggest ones) for like over a week used to be hanging out on opposite corners of my shower (and one of them kept on like scaling down the wall as I was trying to shower last night which was less than ideal because even though I don’t hate spiders I also don’t want one to fall on me while showering) but throughout today they’ve both moved to the same corner on the opposite side of the bathroom. And like I know absolutely nothing about spider behaviours so I don’t know what the dynamic is here but there does seem to be a dynamic of some kind. Like they seem to be moving around each other in a way that makes it seem like they’re acutely aware of the other’s existence.
I’m in my bathroom like are they lovers? Is one of them actually a mummy long legs? How does one tell a male vs female daddy long legs spider apart? What do I do if two spiders decide to procreate in my bathroom? (Because again I’m happy for them to be here but I don’t really want like 100 of them, 6 is plenty)
Alternatively, Is this some territorial thing? Do daddy long legs spiders even get territorial? If so, why did they spend so long like coexisting amicably a metre apart and are now suddenly all up in each other’s faces?
I could obviously google all this but idk it’s fun to share random things on the internet sometimes 😌 (also like these are all just rhetorical questions anyway I’m not super invested in getting answers)
