Metamorphosis after the Violet Haze
For @arabeth-thea  I read your MJ, ReTHG, Ch. 16-Violet  and I started thinkingâŚ.
âItâs the end of her suicide pactâ, as you stated, and I agree it is the end of the life that began with the violet Nightlock Berries, but it also signifies the beginning.  The beginning of her decent into madness and ultimately the beginning of her life.  From the moment that pill is crushed she ends all ties with the capital, snow, coin, the war, her obligation to be the symbol, ect.
She goes into a limbo sort of speak, where she has no more identity. Â Before she had specific roles, Katniss Everdeen the hunter and provider for her family. Â Katniss Everdeen the Girl on Fire, entertainer for the masses. Â Katniss Everdeen the Mockingjay the symbol of the revolution. Â Now she has none of that. Â She has no one to care for. Â She has to find out who she is and what she is about. Â
She doesnât even look like herself, because of the burn scars. Alone, abandoned by her mother, her hunting partner, her mentor, and everyone she thought she loved, this when her decent into madness begins. Â This is when she is when she begins to think of ending it all. Â Yes she thought she was going to be executed and that thought of not wanting to be a piece in their game was most likely in her motivation to end her life. Â But when she wants to commit suicide she pulls back every single time. Why because of one thing.
He is all that she has left, that final look in his eyes and his last words âI Canâtâ as he snatched the pill from her pocket most likely plagued her subconscious much like the word âALWAYSâ. Â This word was in her heart and mind and did not come out to light until that moment when she was shot and under that âviolet haze.â Peetaâs âI Canâtâ most likely surfaced every time and spurred on her hope without her realizing of seeing Peeta again.
Itâs only when she sees him that she comes to life again. Much like a caterpillar undergoing a metamorphosis, so was Katniss when that pill was crushed by the boot of the guard. She completes her transformation and is able to move forward finally finding within herself her truth. Â Herself. Â Her ability to enjoy the life she has.
