liberalsarecool posted about how evil AR-15s are and they’re “only used by cowards” or whatever. Then as expected, a bunch of right-wing goons jumped all over that post reblogging pictures of dead animals to prove that “See! It can be used for hunting! It’s not just a murder weapon!”
Like fine, I get it. A rifle is a rifle. The AR-15 is just a semi auto rifle that shoots .223 like many other commercial hunting and sporting rifles. The AR-15 isn’t special, and the concept of an assault weapon is totally made up. I don’t think it should be banned either. But like the way that post was argued, it’s so fucking stupid.
Do these fucking goons think that showing pictures of dead animals that they hunted is going to convince any liberals that gun owners aren’t evil? There was also a picture of a couple of little girls holding AR-15s like “LOOK!!! SEE??? THE KID’S LOVE IT. FUN FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY! YEEHAWW! I LOVE ‘MURICA.” Like do you want liberals to hate you?
I feel like the whole right wing community isn’t even trying to argue their point. It’s like they’re just being belligerent so they can hopefully piss some people off and then be like “WE SURE OWNED DA LIBTARDS” when someone gets upset and is like “what the fuck is wrong with you?” I honestly feel they aren’t even trying get their point across. They just want to make a big show and pat each other on the backs and remind each other how right they are. :/
If you want to actually want to get your point across, be frank and try to empathize with the other person’s point of view so that you can convince them using their mental framework. Liberals just want to see fewer mass shootings and for America’s gun violence statistics to not be absurdly high for a first world country.
So when you act like you don’t give a fuck about innocent people being gunned down and do nothing to convince others that AR-15s aren’t a “Full semi-automatic military grade assault death weapon that is the deadliest gun ever”, you accomplish nothing. You make yourself look like an ass, and America will remain divided on the issue of gun violence and no progress will be made.
Now where do I stand? I am against gun bans, but I am in favor of gun control. I think that there need to be universal background checks. There should be mandatory licensing and safety classes. Don’t allow people to buy guns if they have a history of domestic violence or substance abuse and they have not proven themselves to be reformed. I also support Red Flag Laws which allow for a person’s guns to be confiscated by court order if they show themselves to be dangerous or make threats of violence.
There’s also a social component. People who go on mass killings tend to be socially ostracized and/or indoctrinated by a radical ideology. We need to come together as a society and embrace peace, love, and oneness. Due away with hate and prejudice.
I guess there’s more to say, but I’ll call it good for now. Let’s try to work together instead of picking sides and taking reactionary stances. Please?
