De Mod genaamd The Time is er een die ik nog niet heel vaak voorbij heb zien komen op social media, hoewel MPC Project er een gigantische hoeveelheid werk in heeft gestoken om elke stap te laten zien door middel van foto’s. Het kan zijn dat ik op de verkeerde social media kijk maar goed dat laten we even buiten beschouwing. Toen ik deze Mod voor het eerst zag had ik geen idee hoe ik The Time ooit zou moeten omzetten in woorden, en wellicht zal ik er met dit artikel dan ook volledig naast komen te zitten.

Structureel gezien is The Time gebouwd op een basis van aluminium dat aangekleed is met mahonie hout, vanwaar een totaal van 8 aluminium pilaren de hoogte in rijzen die een paar zeer verrassende elementen omlijsten. Tussen deze pilaren vinden we het plexiglas, zoals je in elke Mod tegenwoordig vind, wat ons toestaat vanuit elke hoek naar binnen te kijken. MPC project heeft er hier echter voor gekozen om voor een speciaal soort plexiglas te kiezen, namelijk Soft Fluo Green, wat een mooie licht groene gloed creëert over alles wat je er doorheen bekijkt, vooral aan de chromen onderdelen word hierdoor een zeer mooi effect meegegeven.

De watercooling distributie plaat in de bodem van de structuur is zeer netjes bij het uiterlijk van de houten basis getrokken door ook deze te verpakken in hout. Dit zorgt ervoor dat de plaat niet alleen mooi bij de basis past, maar het zorgt tevens voor een look die ik tot nu toe nog niet gezien heb in andere Mods. The Time is op meerdere vlakken vernieuwend bezig, maar dit soort details laten echt in zijn geheel zien tot in hoeverre deze Modder zijn eigen weg volgt. Uiteraard helpt het heel veel mee als je de toegang hebt tot geweldige machines, maar die machines doen niets zonder de input van een artiest.

Het reservoir van The Time is een van de meest spectaculair uitziende reservoirs die ik gezien heb sinds de waterval van Jo Puwalski’s “Eismachine“. In deze The Time is het reservoir een gehele toren in de totale structuur. Nu klinkt dit niet zo speciaal, maar wat als we een complete watershow in die toren plaatsen? Nog niet speciaal genoeg? Ok, dan doen we er ook nog een geheel werkende klok in waarvan je het binnenwerk kunt zien bewegen terwijl de koel vloeistof er langs spettert. Nu wel geïntrigeerd? Nou ik kan je zeggen, dit was hetgeen me aantrok in deze Mod. In het verleden zijn er wel vaker Mods voorbij gekomen waar een klok in verwerkt was, maar geen van allen hielden mijn aandacht zolang vast. Vooral de rode wijzers die qua kleur zoveel afsteken van de rest van The Time zullen hier wat mee te maken hebben gehad vermoed ik.

Er zijn heel wat dingen in deze The Time die ik graag anders gezien zou hebben, zoals bijvoorbeeld het computer gedeelte van het geheel. Hier had er best wat meer aandacht besteed mogen worden aan de bekabeling door deze bijvoorbeeld een stuk netter te routeren en in plaats van een AIO gekoelde grafische kaart wellicht de GPU op te nemen in de loop. Maar het merendeel van The Time is simpelweg een geweldig mooi bouwsel geworden.

Ik mis alleen nog een video waarin je dat water daadwerkelijk ziet spetteren 🙂

Especially the Scratch Mods seem to go in the direction of sculptures and are starting to look less like computers with every build. The beginning of Mods started from a necessity to fit things into places where they would not fit or to make things look just the way you wanted them to look. Even though the current generation of ScratchMods are beautiful, I do not always understand them, but ok, the fact that I do not understand something never stopped me from liking them anyway 🙂 This article is about The Time, created by MPC Project.

The Mod named The Time is one I have not seen come by on Social Media quite often yet, even though MPC Project has spent massive amounts of work to show every step of the way with photos. It could be that I’m simply looking at the wrong social media, but that’s not the point right now. When I first saw this Mod I had no idea how I would ever turn The Time into words, and it might just be that I’m completely missing the point in this article.

As a structure, The Time was built onto an aluminium base which has been dressed up in mahogany wood, from where a total of 8 aluminium pillars rise to the sky framing some very surprising elements within the build. Between these pillars, we find the plexiglass, which you can find in almost all Mods these days, which allows us to view the innards from all possible angles. MPC Project, however, went in a different direction than most with this by using a special kind of plexiglass, namely Soft Fluo Green, which generates a nice light green glow over everything you see trough it. Especially the effect on the chrome parts is worth gazing at.

The water cooling distribution plate in the bottom of the structure has been pulled very cleanly into the whole of the looks by dressing this in mahogany as well. This not only makes it so the plate fits in with the rest but also creates a look the likes of which I have not seen in any other Mod so far. In many ways, The Time is being innovative, but it’s details such as this that really show how much this Modder follows his own path and style in terms of Modding. Of course, the access to some amazing machinery helps as well, but those machines will not generate works of art without an Artist handling them.

The reservoir of The Time is one of the most spectacular looking reservoirs I have seen since Jo Puwalski’s waterfall in “Eismachine“. In The Time, the reservoir is an entire tower in the total structure. This might not sound too special, but what if we were to put a complete water show in that tower? not special enough? Ok, then let’s add a fully functional clock of which you can see the clockwork move while the cooling fluids splash around it. Intrigued yet? Well, I can tell you that this was the part that drew me to this Mod. In the past, a lot of Mods have come by with integrated clocks, but none of them mesmerized me as this one does. Especially the red hands which stick out so much from the rest of The Time in terms of color would have a hand in this I suspect.

In this The Time, there are plenty of things I would have liked to see done in a different way, for example, the entire computer part of this Mod. There could have been a bit more attention to this part of it, by spending some more attention to the routing of the cables and perhaps instead of using an AIO GPU putting the GPU into the loop. This might have diverted the attention away from the clock though so in all fairness, it’s a game of give and take. This Mod called The Time has become an amazing creation worthy of more than a few looks from the world.

All I’m missing is a video in which you can actually see the water splashing around 🙂

De Unicorn Destroy Mod is gebaseerd op de Gundam Unicorn serie welke met maar een beperkt aantal afleveringen toch beladen is met prijzen, niet alleen voor het verhaal, maar ook wegens de personage ontwikkeling en tekenstijl. Het is dan ook geen verrassing dat deze serie de basis vormt waarop een Case Mod gebouwd kon worden. De Unicorn Destroy Mod is hoewel ik fan ben van veel van de Gundam series niet helemaal mijn smaak qua Case Mods. Dit weerhoudt mij er echter niet van om er toch over te schrijven want de individuele delen van deze Mod zorgen er wel voor dat ik toch aardig warm loop. Vooral de gesloten zijde vind ik erg mooi gemaakt, maar ook de watercoolings loop mag genoemd worden.

De buitenzijde van deze Unicorn heeft nagenoeg geen enkele rechte zijde meer over, elke zijde is aangepakt en in de stijl van een Gundam aangekleed. Dit houdt in dat het geheel is opgebouwd uit schijnbaar losse platen die aan de randen bij elkaar gehouden worden. In de Gundams is het hierdoor dat zij vrij kunnen bewegen zonder toch sommige delen kwetsbaar open te laten. De voor en bovenzijde zijn hier perfecte voorbeelden van, deze zijdes zijn opgebouwd uit meerdere lagen waardoor het lijkt alsof er een case in een case is geplaatst. Hierdoor krijg je een waar 3D gevoel bij deze Mod zelfs al kijk je alleen naar de foto’s.

De verlichting van deze Unicorn Destroy Mod spat letterlijk aan alle kanten uit deze Mod, de rode gloed die hierdoor ontstaat lijkt de witte platen van de buitenzijdes in vuur en vlam te zetten en laat het lijken alsof er van binnen in de Mod iets leeft. Dit effect is zeer mooi nagebootst van de Unicorn Gundam uit de series, waarin dit soort licht meestal gebruikt word om te laten zien dat de Gundam wat meer Power gebruikt. Ik had deze lichtgloed graag gezien met een “Breathing” effect, waardoor het zou lijken alsof de Mod ademt, maar dat kan ik niet terug zien op de foto’s.

De Dichte zijde van deze Mod is wellicht mijn favoriete deel van deze Unicorn Destroy Mod. Op deze zijde zijn de Sponsoren aangegeven en normaal gesproken vind ik het maar niets als er sponsoren in grote vlakken word aangegeven die naar je schreeuwen. In deze Mod zijn de Sponsoren echter weergegeven in vlakken die bijna perfect passen in de gehele stijl van de Mod waardoor zij echt onderdeel worden van het geheel. Het feit dat de hele zijde van binnen word verlicht geeft je een open gevoel terwijl het toch gaat om een dichte zijde. De dichte zijde laat een enorme rode X zien op een groot wit vlak, waarin enkel de fans van de serie het multifunctionele schild van de Gundam Unicorn zullen herkennen. Dit schild is een van de meest herkenbare gevechts onderdelen van deze Gundam en door deze hier weer te geven (op de Linker zijde/ arm van de Gundam) toont dat het hier gaat om het werk van een ware fan.

De watercoolings loop van deze Unicorn Destroy Mod mag zoals gezegd ook genoemd worden, hoewel op eerste zicht het wellicht niet zo heel speciaal zal lijken. De Grafische kaart en Processor zijn opgenomen in deze loop, en de buizen lijken allemaal naar een reservoir or radiator boven in de case te gaan. Echter worden de buizen boven in enkel door gelust en komen ze weer terug naar beneden alwaar de radiator is geplaatst. De reservoirs zijn op de achterzijde aan de buitenkant van de Case gemonteerd waardoor een heleboel ruimte van binnen overblijft om de hardware te showen.

De beide zijdes van de Unicorn Destroy Mod kunnen open, maar ook hier is weer iets speciaals achter de hand gehouden dat je op eerste zicht niet direct zal zien. Deze zijdes zijn namelijk zo gemaakt dat ze open geschoven kunnen worden naar achteren toe, alsof je een lade open schuift. Dit is een feature die je niet in heel veel Mods tegenkomt en toch wel heel erg praktisch genoemd mag worden. Dat deze zijdes er niet gewoon af gehaald moeten worden geeft aan hoeveel gedachtes en werk er in deze Mod gegaan zijn. St.Jimmy’s PC Modding heeft met deze Unicorn Destroy Mod een ware showcase gemaakt waar niet alleen de Computer Modding fans maar ook de Gundam Fans hun hart over kunnen ophalen.

The most successful and most elaborate anime series are those based on Gundams. Gundams are giant fighting robot suits with usually a human pilot. The reason that the Gundam Series all become so hugely popular is because these series have an enormous depth of the story, the story doesn’t get limited to what happens, but also shows the past of the main and by characters, which ensures that there will always be at least one character to whom you can identify so you will feel more emotionally involved in the story. This article is about the Unicorn Destroy Mod made by St.Jimmy’s PC Modding.

The Unicorn Destroy Mod is based on the Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn series which has been showered in prizes despite its only limited amount of episodes, not just for the story, but also because of the character development and art style. It should not be any surprise that this series also acts as a base upon which amazing Mods can be built. The Unicorn Destroy is even though I am a fan of most of the Gundam series not entirely the type of Case Mod that I personally like best. This doesn’t stop me from writing about it anyway because it’s the individual parts of this Mod that still make my engine run hot anyway. Especially the closed side I think is brilliantly made, but the water cooling loop is also worth mentioning.

The outsides of this Unicorn doesn’t have a lot of straight sides left, each side has been worked over and got dressed in the style of a Gundam. This means the whole is built up out of seemingly loose plates which are held together at the rims. In the Gundams, this makes them able to move freely without exposing vital parts to easy attacks. The front and top side are perfect examples of this, these sides have been built up out of multiple layers making it seem as if there was a case placed into another case. This generates a true 3D look and feel which you can even sense when just looking at the photos of this Mod.

The lighting on this Unicorn Destroy literally blows out of every side of this Mod, the red glow that comes with this seems to put the white plates on the outsides a blaze and makes it seem as if there is something alive on the inside of this Mod. This effect has been very nicely re-created from the Gundam Unicorn in the series, in which this type of light is usually depicted to show when the Gundam uses a larger power. I would have loved to see this Light glow in a “breathing” effect, which would make it seem as if the Mod actually was alive, but I wouldn’t be able to see that on the photos.

The closed side of this Mod is probably my favorite part of this Unicorn Destroy Mod. On this side, the sponsors have been shown and normally I do not like it when sponsors get shown on large areas which simply scream out at you. In this Mod the sponsor names have been placed on areas which fit the overall style of the Mod which makes them an integral part of the Mod as a whole. The fact that this entire side is being lighted from the inside out gives you an open feel even if this is supposed to be the closed side. This side shows a giant red X on a large white plain, in which only the fans of the series will recognize the multifunctional shield of the Gundam Unicorn. This shield is without a doubt one of the most recognizable battle armaments of this Gundam and by placing it here (on the left side/ arm of the Gundam) this shows to be the work of a true fan.

The water cooling loop of this Unicorn Destroy Mod is worth mentioning as I’ve said earlier, even if it does not seem very special at first glance. The Graphics card and Processor are both being cooled by this loop, and the tubing all seems to go to a reservoir or radiator in the top of the case. However, in the top, the tubing just gets connected to each other and are looped back down to the bottom at the case where we can find the radiator. The reservoirs have been mounted on the outer backside of the case leaving a lot of space on the inside to show off the hardware.

Both sides of this Unicorn Destroy Mod can be opened, but even here a little something special has been kept on the wraps which you would not be able to notice at first glance. The sides have been made in such a way that they can be slid open towards the back of the case, like sliding open a drawer. This is a feature which you will not find in a lot of Mods and yet can be called quite practical. The fact that these sides do not have to be removed to open the case shows a huge amount of dedication in thought and work that has gone into this Mod. St.Jimmy’s PC Modding has created a true showcase with this Unicorn Destroy Mod about which not just the PC Modding Fans, but also the Gundam Fans might just start drooling.

Roest is normaal gesproken fataal voor metaalsoorten en dus zijn niet veel mensen blij het te zien verschijnen, bijna iedereen zal het zelfs zo lang mogelijk proberen te vermijden. Wat je echter in de restauratie, design en zelfs custom auto markten ziet gebeuren is dat “roest” gezien word als iets moois. De aantasting door de tijd geeft veel metalen objecten een rustiek / antiek gevoel dat de sier waarde van het object vergroot. Uiteraard gaat het in de meeste van deze gevallen om uiterlijke schijn en niet de daadwerkelijke schadelijke aantasting. Deze “Forgotten Machine” lijkt rechtstreeks uit een moeras geplukt te zijn waar hij jaren heeft liggen roesten, hierdoor lijkt deze Case Mod zo fragiel geworden dat hij kan vergaan bij een simpele aanraking.

Deze “Forgotten Machine” gelijkt een computer die vergeten is door de jaren heen, geheel aangetast door de natuur en de tijd. Elke detail in deze Mod is zorgvuldig gekozen en aangebracht om dit gevoel nog verder te versterken. Wat ik persoonlijk zeer mooi gedaan vind is het feit dat er maar weinig speciaals gedaan is, als je het thema geheel weg zou halen hou je een normaal uitziende computer over. In dit geval is minder inderdaad meer, doordat er weinig extra’s aan toegevoegd zijn word het beeld van de “Forgotten Machine” juist versterkt.

Natuurlijk zou ik niet over deze Case Mod schrijven als het een hele simpele Mod was waarbij er enkel wat kleur is toegevoegd aan een bestaande case. Ik wil natuurlijk over dingen schrijven die ik mooi vind en toch ook wel wat speciaals hebben. Het speciale aan deze “Forgotten Machine” vond ik in de aandacht voor detail die in deze Case Mod zijn aangebracht. De roestlaag is niet enkel een laag verf die er weer afgeschuurd is om het een oude look te geven, de dikte verschillen en consistentie van de aangebrachte details in deze roestlaag zorgen voor een overweldigende hoeveelheid detail die je niet zomaar even aangebracht hebt. Het thema is ook doorgetrokken in de half vergane Fan grills welke enkel nog met roest vast lijken te hangen. Het detail werk aan de buitenzijde van deze “Forgotten Machine” laat het lijken alsof er ooit een omhulsel omheen heeft gehoord dat door de jaren heen vergaan is. Dit gevoel kreeg ik vooral bij het kijken naar de voorzijde, waar de net iets uitstekende fans die voorzien zijn van vergane mesh. Bij deze voorzijde zou ik een gladde voorzijde verwachten met daarop een logo of iets dergelijks zoals je bij veel van de huidige cases ziet. Het feit dat je aan de buitenzijde ook geen enkele verbetering ziet zoals een plexiglas zijde of andere versiersels zorgt er tevens voor dat het lijkt alsof er al heel veel van deze Case is vergaan in de tijd.

Een ander prachtig detail is de gecorrodeerde watercooling loop. de reservoir / pomp combinatie is perfect aangetast door de tijd en is totaal niet meer mooi schoon te noemen. De koel vloeistof lijkt door de jaren heen de binnenzijde van het reservoir tot in zoverre aangetast te hebben dat het net lijkt of deze op de bodem van een moeras heeft gelegen. De kleur van de vloeistof versterkt het roestige uiterlijk en gaat helemaal op in het thema.

Het enige dat ik aan deze “Forgotten Machine” jammer vind zijn de kabels. De kabels lijken, voor zover zichtbaar, te nieuw. De zwarte kabel die langs de voorzijde omhoog gaat glimt teveel en ook de kabels voor de grafische kaart zijn totaal niet aangetast. Deze kabels doen een beetje afbreuk aan het geheel.

This “Forgotten Machine” made by ZMX Custom & Design is a Case Mod which shows that beautiful things can come out of out of aging and corrosion.

normally rust is considered fatal to metals and thus not a lot of people are happy to see it appearing, almost everyone will even try to avoid it for as long as possible. In the restoration, design and custom car industries “rust” or “patina” is seen as a very nice looking effect. The corrosion by time gives a lot of objects a rustic / antique feel which increases the value in terms of appearance. Of course in most of these cases it is about the appearance only and not the actual damage that it causes. This “Forgotten Machine” seems to have been plucked straight from a swamp in which it has been rusting for many years, this makes the Case Mod look so fragile that it can perish from a simple touch.

This “Forgotten Machine” equals a computer that has been forgotten trough the years, entirely corroded by nature and time. Every detail in this Mod has been carefully selected and added to enhance this feeling. The thing I personally like best is the fact that there hasn’t been anything really special done to this computer if you were to take away the theme entirely you’d be left with a normal looking computer. In this case, Less is More indeed because there haven’t been a lot of extra’s added the image of the “Forgotten Machine” just gets amplified.

Of course I wouldn’t be writing about this Case Mod if it was a very simple Mod on which just a touch of color has been added to an existing case. My intention is to write about things I like and have something special as well. The thing I found to be special in this “Forgotten Machine” is the attention to detail that’s been put into this Case Mod. The layer of rust isn’t just a layer of paint that has been sanded off to give it an aged look, the variations in thickness and the consistency of the detailing in this rust layer create an overwhelming amount of detail which you won’t be able to simply apply in mere minutes or even hours. The theme stretches on into the half perished fan grills which seem to be hanging on with rust only. The detail work on the outside of this “Forgotten Machine” make it seem as if there was once a casing around it which has been putrified trough the years. This feel is especially enhanced when you look at the front side of the case, where the fans stick out of the case just a bit are covered in perished mesh. On the front, i’d expect a smooth surface with the logo of the manufacturer on it or something like you see in most standard cases these days. The fact that the outside hasn’t got a single improvement like a plexiglass side window or other adornments also works to create the look and feel that a lot of this case has been lost to time.

Another gorgeous detail is the corroded water cooling loop. The reservoir / pump combination is perfectly affected by time and cannot be called beautifully clean in any way. The cooling liquid seems to have cankered the inside of the reservoir to the point that it almost seems as if it has been laying on the bottom of a swamp. The color of the liquid enhances the rusty appearance and fits into the theme perfectly.

The only thing I find regrettable in this “Forgotten Machine” is the wiring. The cables seem, as far as you can see them, to new. The black cable that crawls to the top in the front side of the case shines too much and the cables for the graphics card aren’t corroded at all. These cables take away from the whole just a little bit.
