Night 1: At first the water was clear and Cocoa was fine - very energetic and swimming all around, picking up gravel and having a good time. However as time went on she became became stressed, going to the surface of the tank and breathing air. I tested the water repeatedly but there was nothing “wrong” that I could see with the results, so I bought a bubbler to give her more air, and went to bed worried.

Morning 1: the tank was now white and cloudy and there were tiny air bubbles over everything. Cocoa was still breathing, but stuck upside down on a decorative plant. I righted her and she floated up to the surface. She didn’t seem able to move on her own. She was covered in mucus and tiny bubbles, so I turned off the bubbler as it wasn’t helping.

Evening 2: I spent all day trying to figure out what was wrong but to no avail. The tank was still milky looking; the best I could tell from google it was either a bacterial bloom (which would be good) or ammonia, but tests indicated zero ammonia. Cocoa was still completely immobile and floating at the surface. Still breathing, though. Respiration seemed rather high. I went to bed without much hope.

So tomorrow we’re supposed to go to the leasing office and see what’s available on the third floor.

... but I just realized tonight that if we move, that means moving the 75 gallon. The 75 gallon that I just got looking nice and cycled and filled with fish.
