The Roma are a group of people who are descendants of, mostly, South Asians (Indians specifically). The Roma were subjected to horrible treatment with strong similarities to well known historical genocides.
The importance of the Roma to the occult is that they play a big part, especially in occult American tv where their culture is fetishized & misrepresented. (An example is falsely associating them with palmistry). On our TVs we depict them in bangles and long skirts with a ruffle top and a head wrap along with identifying them as “g*y*p*s*y”.
Not well known, G**** is actually a slur.
To Roma women being called g____ is similar to labeling Asian women as submissive, Afro women as exotic, & Latinas (all races) as spicy (except g is a slur). This makes them more likely to be sexual assault victims & dehumanized.
G**** is a ✨Slur✨ even if someone of that culture identifies as it. Their slur, their dominion. It’s not a cute or trendy word for witch. It is disrespectful to glorify words used to oppress a group of people in which you do not belong to. The variant g*y*p is no exception.

It's because people want to be able to blanket their inclusivity. Though trying to repurpose something that already has a specific meanig is not the way to go about it. Instead of co-opting, one should create.

i agree that there often seems to be a general lack of effort and / or consideration behind attempts at inclusivity that make use of overgeneralizations.
that said, it’s not always a matter of something being co-opted or appropriated, as is the case here with these flags as all of the flags in the posts in question were made by black people.
i’m afraid that i see a lot of young black Americans doing the very thing that i spoke of in that post, which is part of the reason that i’m so confused and admittedly frustrated by this…
I’ll start by introducing myself as Bunny. I’m kinda new to tumblr. As a baby or learning witch I have seen a lot of appropriation and misinformation in the witch community. I’m not too sure how well this page will take off, but my main objective is to help babies/learners/apprentices like me who want to avoid offensive practices, covens(cults) or ideologies.
I will definitely provide ways to rid yourself of entitlement or harmful attitudes towards a certain subject if you feel you have any, it’s nothing to be ashamed of if you want to fix it, this could also benefit shadow work.
Everything I post will be based on active practitioners and cultural accounts. When posting an opinion I will make sure to put just that.
I don’t like to argue and I’m not offended by correction. If something about one of my future posts seems off I encourage you to tell me so I can edit it or repost an edited version. My page is a safe place for people of all identities.
