It’s not something that any one of you ‘initiate’. It just kinda happens.

He doesn’t intend to confess. He knows he loves you and for some dumb reason, he just assumes you won’t reciprocate. So he thinks about how much he likes you but never says it out loud. He’s content with just liking you and having only him know that.

But he almost slips several times.

Calls you sweetheart once and you’re like ??? and he laughs it off and “oh just a pet name h aha” and then as soon as you’re gone he’s like OHMYGOD THAT WAS CLOSE but now he’s in too deep so he keeps calling you sweetheart to make you think it really is just a pet name and he’d be lyin if he said he didn’t really enjoy calling you that it just makes him feel happy

But the man really slips one night when he’s just... Really tired. He’s had a rough trial and he’s just lying there in the grass and you’ve come over to sit by him. You’re petting his hair and listening to his gentle breath as he snoozes

He wakes up and blearily blinks up at you, head on your lap, and just gives you a tired smile. “Love you,” he mumbles, and shuts his eyes again.

Seconds pass. 

All of sudden his eyes snap open and he’s like “did i just”

“did you just say you love me”

Jeff, face going red, but he doesn’t move. He’s just staring at you, having an internal crisis. “I’ve made things weird, haven’t I?” He finally says after a while. “Sorry.” But he doesn’t take it back. He loves you.

He doesn’t quite believe you at first.

Jeff In A Trial With His S/O

He’s very protective over you. He’s very altruistic anyway, but he’s really focused on you. He will go out of his way to protect you, even so much as standing between you and the killer and taking hits and getting hooked for you. 

Almost always has a med-kit on hand in case you get hurt.

And if he doesn’t, this man will literally rip his clothes to give you bandages don’t test him. 

There’s only the two of you left. You’ve both found the hatch. Jeff looks you dead in the eye and, “right now you stay here, I’mma go catch their attention.” He will 100% let himself die if it means you get out. No hesitation. 

He’s always helping you out but then he gently reprimands you for helping him. He just doesn’t want you hurt, and he expects the aid to be a one-way street where he takes care of you and you don’t have to care of him. Please take care of him. 

Not a man of violence but he’ll throw hands for you. You’ve seen him threaten several killers on your behalf, but he always says the threats in a really calm manner so it seems like he’s joking, but he’s really not. 

You notice that all four members of the Legion are surprisingly very docile with you in trials. You were once working on a gen by yourself, and Joey ran towards you, knife raised, and then hesitated. Then he nervously laughed, shot you a finger gun, “ya aight” and then ran off. 

Because unbeknowst to you, Jeff has told them all that he gonna be mad if they touch you and they respect jeff so they’re like “k”

Jeff Johansen With a Smol S/O

Jeff is big boy. He tol. He thicc. He bear man. And you know what that means? Best cuddles. His arms are thick and they can and will crush you in a big bear hug.

Gives you piggy backs for no reason. All the time. He doesn’t even ask if you want one, he just turns around and makes grabby hands behind him to tell you to jump up. But he’s too tall. So you have to remind him to crouch down. So he crouches down and you just flop on his back. 

You’re on a hook and Jeff comes to save you. He reaches up, lifts you up and... Doesn’t put you down. This fucking man slings you over his shoulder and walks off like gotta go heal u sweetheart hang tight

"Hey, hey. You're okay."

Arms wound around you from behind, and you leaned back into the sturdy chest. When you're returned to the campfire after the morbid end to your trial, you'd been desperate to see him. When he wasn't there waiting for you; you'd... You'd been distraught. You just wanted to see him, but you understood. It wasn't his fault he'd been called to a trial in your absence.

Jeff's chin settled upon your shoulder, his hands gripping at your arms. "I missed you," he grumbled, "almost didn't get out. How did yours go?"

Your memories flickered. Images of being thrown onto that hook snapped back into your head. You remembered the face of The Cannibal tilting in your direction as he watched you suffer, tongue flitting over his teeth. You wished you were used to the terror by now. You wished you could contain yourself. But you couldn't. Tears bubbled.

"Jeff," you mumbled his name, a tiny hiccup of fright in the depths of your tone. You felt him freeze against you. In a second, he leaned over your body to see your face and you could see the concern in his expression. The very moment your sorrowful face became apparent to him, he was hurrying to comfort you. You didn't deserve him.

He stepped over the log you were sat on and crouched down before you, hands grasping at your cheeks. A thumb swept at the trail of tears under your right eye; rough but welcome. "Sweetheart, I'm-- God, what happened? I'm so sorry, god I took too long coming back, I-"

You lurched forward, pressing yourself into his chest and scrambling to throw your arms over his shoulders. You balled the back of his leather jacket into your fists and buried your face into his neck, craving the warmth and comfort that he exerted. "I can't do it," you whimpered, and you felt his shoulders tense beneath your grip.

"I'm so sorry," he entangled a hand in your hair, rubbing soothing circles into your scalp. This wasn't his fault, but you knew he couldn't help but take the blame. You bit your lip and cried quietly into his shoulder as his palm lay fat against your quivering spine. You knew he didn't know what was going on, but you were too distraught to explain. He could probably assume that the trials were getting to you.

"It's okay, it's okay. You're okay, I've got you."

He pulled back to look at your face again, despite how much you clawed at him to come back. "You're okay," he repeated. The serious, worried shine of his eyes was making the tears bubble faster. He looked scared. Scared for you. His hands grasped your face again and he fumbled to pepper tiny little kisses across your cheeks, completely undeterred by your damp skin. You shut you eyes and felt the flutter of his lips gently press against your eyelids.
