Hey lovelies!
So I thought it would be a good idea to post about the different ways that foundation can be applied and what I think and prefer. A lot of you may already know about the various tools that can be used to apply foundation. Lets go into depth.
Brush
My favourite type of tool for applying foundation. I love using a brush (Real Techniques Buffing Brush) or a flat top brush to apply foundation by dabbing the product all over my face as much as I can and lightly buffing in where there may be streaks as brushes can leave streak marks. They are easy to blend out however which is why I love the brush. I also think the brush allows for the most coverage and does not absorb product. Foundation brushes are also available to use however I believe they produce a lot more streaks which is why I donβt use them. Brushes are also great for applying stick or cream foundations the best.
Beauty Blender/Sponge
Iβll start off by saying I donβt actually own a real beauty blender however like all sponges they tend to absorb a lot of product which is what Iβve found happens when I use a sponge to apply foundation. I think a lot of product is wasted with this tool and I also think that the coverage it provides isnβt full (because most of the product was absorbed). Applying with a sponge usually means dabbing the foundation in however I can usually see a lot of my scars and marks even after applying. It would have to be my least favourite tool so far.
Silicone Sponge
Now unlike the beauty blender, this sponge is silicone and does not absorb product at all. It isnβt a typical sponge and is usually clear with a rubbery material. I have used this and I actually really do like the finish it gives the foundation. The way to apply it is to swipe the foundation on to your face first and then use a dabbing motion. I think it leaves the skin looking smooth and reduces the look of pores (which mine are usually really large). You also donβt need or waste a lot of product with this because it isnβt getting sucked up by the sponge. Recommend it!
Electrical Applications
These include techniques like airbrushing and motorised brushes. Airbrushing provides a smooth, flawless base and looks amazing when applied. It is also usually a quick application as is the motorised brush. I have not used one but I imagine it would be a fast application as well and would leave a smooth base too.
Which do you prefer out of them all?
Recommendations: β I donβt recommend using your fingers, it feels gross and it can be unhygienicΒ as well as leave an unblended look to the skin. It may also be cakey depending on how thick the foundation is. β Choose your application technique based on the texture and formula of your foundation (liquid, cream, etc) β Blend down your neck too! Donβt leave it out. β Use a primer and/or moisturiser if possible before applying foundation to allow for a smoother application
I hope you all enjoyed this post as I enjoyed typing it. Let me know down below if you have any tips or tricks for applying foundation.
