Yet, in that movie, she looks after 9-year-old Anakin like a second mother—covering him up, dressing him, reassuring him—and then, when she sees him again ten years later, he’s turned into a whiny, petulant teenager, and she falls madly in love with him ialmost instantly ???!!

I’ve always struggled to understand how she could have fallen in love with him in AOTC.

To me, Padmé should have only had eyes for Obi-Wan (obviously). It’s largely this inconsistency that made the "Anidala" romance unconvincing to me—even more so than the lack of direction for the actors, the absurd dialogue, and the lack of chemistry between the two leads (whom I actually like a lot otherwise).

If you have any recommendations, I’m looking for Obi/Anakin fics where Padmé has a crush on Obi-Wan instead of Anakin. I’d love a story where Anakin is very jealous—first of Obi-Wan, and then of Padmé once he realizes she might just steal his Obi-Wan away. It could be obidala or obianidala but end game is obikin.

1) the cgi truly is grim at times. I know it was early aughts but there are points where it looks like one of the early Age of Empires or Halo PC games. I wonder that they didn’t use it a little more sparingly

2) I know everyone rags on the Jedi for not noticing that Anakin and Padme were obviously building towards/in a relationship but I think this is actually an excellent example of their main problem which is missing the forest for the trees.

From their point of view there are a couple main things going on:

1. The government is having a major brexit type issue - but multiplied by the thousands.

2. The Jedi themselves have a Quaker style numbers problem placed on them largely by their own rules. Those rules were fine before but they can’t handle the scale of problems they are dealing with now so we have a handful of people handling a case load designed for way more staff.

3. The force as they know it is not as powerful for them as it once was.

And then waaaaay down the list they have a padawan that might have a girlfriend.

In a world where the higher-ups have nothing else going on they might care, but they are concerned about their attachment to the force, their government breaking up, and their workforce numbers problem.

And you can’t totally blame them because those ARE arguably much larger problems.

The issue is that they also believe that Anakin is the chosen one, so maybe if the force is acting weird and so is Anakin they should keep a closer eye on both.

Unfortunately for them, they are most interested in maintaining the status quo. So issues that don’t force themselves to be resolved are pushed off to the side to see if they will resolve themselves.

The other issue is that the Jedi leadership genuinely believe that in the end things will resolve in their favor. They are banking on Anakin never going awol, the Chancellor being who they believe him to be, etc.
