Regarding your Lorde post : the thing that bothered me was that she was unconsciously telling us that she was privileged enough to ignore what was happening around the world over the past 18 months while most of us didn't have that luxury. The covid situation aside I didn't exactly buy the "it's satire" explanation that a lot of fans were going with because idt she was actually renouncing the whole wellness culture thing? It was more like she was saying that okay the wellness culture trend is silly and I'm over it not in a relatable way but in a "I'm rich enough to find better solutions for myself" way iykwim?
The Covid-thing is complicated to me because I do think it is an artist's right to put out what they want to put out at whenever time and if Lorde truly feels happy and at peace right now, good for her!, but I ALSO think it's valid for people to not like that. I also think people would find her less annoying for that if she didn't talk about the themes on the album as if they were universally relatable if that makes sense. Like that "we all know a guy who used to do so much coke but now he's all about weed" thing she said about "Dominoes"... It is part of marketing, but when you add that to this general feeling of her out of touch-ness, I personally can't help to be like "No Lorde we don't!!!" I can't comment on the wellness thing because ??? I personally have never encountered that in my life so idk what those people are like and as a result I also can't "deduct" Mood Ring. A lot of what she appears to talk about during the press for this album is her social media cleansing and man I am genuinely happy for and envy her, but she doesn't really comment on how the idea that shutting off your phone = peace is in itself an act of privilege. I don't think she is a bad person for that and she doesn't owe us deep explanations, but, again, it is valid for fans to not like that or find themselves annoyed with her. This is only heightened by the comments she made on the sirens in "Dominoes". She appears to live an amazing life and I don't think people are mad at her for that alone, it's more that the way she talks about everything feels a little self-centered. Solar Power as a whole feels like she made it for herself only. Which is a quality people can love, and I also think there are a bunch of people who relate to this album and adore it, but I 100% understand why others perceive Lorde to be disconnected from the world. Because in many ways, she is. Can you reach her? No, you can't!
